Spencer Villinski, a Lasell University student from Pittsfield, was a member of the award-winning DECA team at the professional organization's regional and international competitions this semester.
 
Distributive Education Clubs of America Inc. prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management, with collegiate chapters around the world. The Newton college's DECA chapter competed at the Massachusetts DECA Association's regional qualifying competition in February, and sent a cohort of seven students to the organization's International Career Development Conference in Baltimore.
 
Villinski received a fourth-place award at the state level qualifying competition in February. At the ICDC finals, Villinski competed in the human resource management category.
 
 
Pittsfield resident Eva Myers was the costume coordinator for Western New England University's spring musical "Chicago" in April. The musical tells the story of Roxie Hart, a chorus girl who murders a faithless lover and convinces her husband, Amos, to take the blame. Myers was also costume coordinator for last fall's production of "Little Women." She is working toward a bachelor's degree in creative writing with an education minor.
 
The Western New England University chapter of Mortar Board welcomed rising seniors at the annual Mortar Board National Honor Society induction ceremony on April 10 in Rivers Memorial Hall. Mortar Board is the senior honor society at the university. The society is open to those students who have demonstrated both academic excellence and leadership on campus and in the community, and are in the top 35 percent of their class.  
 
Students inducted are Daniel Buell of Hancock, who is studying mechanical engineering, and Seyvon Kouao of Pittsfield, studying pharmaceutical business.
 
Jacob Hane of Williamstown was one of six Hamilton College students who presented at Parilia, an annual undergraduate classics conference that brings together students from Skidmore, Union, and Hamilton colleges. Hane presented a paper on "Racialized Gender in Nonnus' Dionysiaca," based on senior thesis work.
 
He is a senior majoring in classical languages at the Clinton, N.Y., college, and is a graduate of Mount Greylock Regional High School.
 
 
Esther Chilson of Lanesborough, a freshman, worked on seven shows in the NewFest Showcase of 2022 this spring at Emerson College in Boston that featured plays written, directed, and performed by students. Chilson was the second assistant stage manager for all shows and is majoring in stage and production management and is a member of the class of 2025.
 
 
Samantha Scoco of Pittsfield has been inducted into Alpha Alpha Alpha Honor Society, a national honor society recognizing the achievements of first-generation students, alumni, staff, faculty and administrators. Scoco, a member of the class of 2024, was one of 123 students inducted into the honor society's new chapter at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester named Delta Omicron.
 
 
Curry College in Milton welcomed Julia O'Connor of Dalton into the Alexander Graham Bell Honor Society. The objective of the society is to promote and recognize academic excellence at the college, of which Bell was an early chancellor.
 
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society, has inducted several local students. 
  • Mallory Northrup of Pittsfield was initiated at the University of Massachusetts.
  • Gwendolyn Carpenter of Ashley Falls was initiated at Framingham State University.
  • Christopher Densmore of Williamstown was initiated at Eastern Oregon University.
 
Hudson Valley (Troy, N.Y.) Community College student Caleb Saunders of Housatonic was recently inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for two-year institutions of higher learning.
 
 
Mike Maruk, a Lasell University student from Pittsfield, was acknowledged for his work at campus media stations WLAS and LCTV at the annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System awards ceremony. Maruk was a finalist for Best Comedy Program ("Chicken Nuggets").
 
The two stations collectively won two first-place trophies and set a new record for nominations -- 19 total finalist nods -- at the IBS awards. LCTV was nominated for Best College/University TV Station, and Dr. Brian Wardyga, professor of communication and advisor to both WLAS and LCTV, was nominated for Best Faculty Advisor, Television.
 
On campus, LCTV garnered an additional award at the annual Student Awards Banquet, winning Student Organization of the Year.

 

A total of 35 students from Western New England University in Springfield have earned their Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification. Local students were named to the list are Kathryn Bentz of Adams, William Carroll of Lenox and Nicole Sebastino of Pittsfield. 

 
Spencer Villinski, a Lasell University student from Pittsfield, was recognized by the institution for outstanding collaboration in the spring 2022 semester. Villinski received the most peer nominations in the Fashion Consumer course, taught by faculty member Kathleen Evans. Recipients of the Collaboration Recognition Award are selected by their peers for exemplifying superior skills in collaboration by sharing ideas and useful information, communicating in a professional manner, and cooperating in a way to ensure success.

Graduations

Allison Supranowicz of Pittsfield graduated from Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.,  in December 2021, earning an master of science in physician assistant studies.
 
Worcester Polytechnic Institute awarded nearly 1,200 bachelor's degrees at its 153rd undergraduate commencement ceremony on May 14, including to the following students:
  • Jenna Charron of Adams, electrical and computer engineering
  • Adelaide McFarland of Great Barrington, biology and biotechnology
  • Anthony Arace of Pittsfield, mechanical engineering
  • Augustine Asumadu of Pittsfield, management information systems
  • Mary Decelles of Pittsfield, mechanical engineering
  • Danielle Lablanc of Pittsfield, mechanical engineering
  • Eli Ruffa of Pittsfield, majored in management

 

Liam Frager of Great Barrington graduated summa cum laude from Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y., with a bachelor's degree in music composition and minors in Honors Program, music theory, and music history during the 95th commencement ceremony on campus on Saturday, May 14.

 

Nearly 400 graduates received a bachelor's degree during Assumption University's 105th commencement exercises on Sunday, May 8, in Worcester. Larry Lucchino, Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer and chairman and principal owner of the Worcester Red Sox, delivered the commencement address. Local graduates included Amanda Moon of North Adams and Giuliana Pierce of Pittsfield.

 

Stonehill College in Easton awarded 532 undergraduate and 29 graduate degrees at its 71st commencement on May 22 including to Devon Gray of the town of Florida and Ryan Abel and Hayley Tobin, both of Pittsfield.

 

The following students graduated from the University of New Hampshire in Durham in May: Hannah Ronayne of Dalton, Hannah Guarino of Great Barrington and Shae Daley and Kasey Vallee, both of Pittsfield.
 
This year's commencement at the University of Vermont in Burlington marked a return to a traditional celebration outdoors. The following students graduated during the 221st commencement ceremonies in May:
  • Bailey Patella of Lenox graduated with a bachelor of science in Human Development & Family Studies.
  • Jipeng Chen of Pittsfield graduated with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering.
  • Owen Brandriss of Williamstown graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering.
 
 
Marya Makuc of Monterey graduated summa cum laude and Mollie Herrick of Lenox cum laude from the College of the Holy Cross. The college celebrated nearly 755 bachelor of arts degree recipients at its 176th commencement held on May 27 in Worcester. Acclaimed writer and infectious disease physician Abraham Verghese delivered this year's address to the class of 2022 and received an honorary degree.
 
Luke Maynard of Pittsfield earned a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the Citadel in Charleston, S.C..
 
The following local students graduated from Ithaca (N.Y.) College in May: 
  • Kristen Aliberti of Williamstown graduated with a degree in business administration.
  • Olivia Kinne of Pittsfield graduated magna cum laude with a degree in theater arts management.
  • Gabriella Orpin of Pittsfield graduated magna cum laude with a degree in clinical health studies.

 

Emmanuel College in Boston celebrated its milestone 100th commencement on May 14. Local students who graduated include Kostandinos Cami of Great Barrington, bachelor of arts in management; Autumn Duke of Housatonic, bachelor of arts in writing, editing and publishing; Ariana Burke of Pittsfield, bachelor of science in biology with a concentration in health sciences, and Ashleigh Fawcett of Pittsfield, bachelor of arts in marketing.

Ari Drayman of Dalton graduated summa cum laude from Eastern Connecticut State University in Hartford, Conn., with a bachelor of arts degree in political science.

 

The following local students graduated from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y this year:

  • Celene Koperek of North Adams, master of science in education communication sciences and disorders.
  • Julia Esoldi of North Adams, bachelor of science in human resource management. 

 

Pittsfield residents Valerie Goly and Michael Kays were among the 216 undergraduate students awarded degrees from American International College in Springfield this spring.

 

The following local students received their degrees in May as part of the class of 2022 of Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I.: 

  • Ellie Field of Adams, bachelor of science in public health
  • Sierra Jamros of Adams, magna cum laude, bachelor of science in legal studies
  • Emma Smith of Dalton, magna cum laude, bachelor of arts in psychology
     

 

Western New England University in Springfield congratulates the following local graduates from the class of 2022:

  • William Townsend Carroll of Lenox, summa cum laude, bachelor of science in engineering, mechanical engineering.
  • Samantha R. Walter of Pittsfield, bachelor of science in criminal justice.
 
Julia O'Connor of Dalton graduated on May 22 from Curry College in Milton. 
 
Crystal Shaw of Pittsfield graduated with a master of science in nursing (family nurse practitioner) from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa.
 
Clark University in Worcester awarded 577 bachelor, 489 master, and 25 doctoral degrees, and conferred four honorary degrees during its 118th commencement exercises on May 22. Graduates were urged to always ask questions, move forward with confidence, and have the moral clarity to make courageous and meaningful decisions. Among the graduates were:
  • Sarah Claire Trimarchi of Adams, magna cum laude, bachelor of arts in international development and social change.
  • Matthew R. Lessard of Clarksburg, bachelor of arts in biology.
  • Devan T.E. Galli of North Adams, summa cum laude, bachelor of arts in psychology.
 
Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center congratulates the following students on their graduation this spring: earning associate degrees in nursing were Erika Munson of Adams, Ashley Wasuk of Dalton, Catherine Boucher of North Adams, Maria Deblois of Readsboro, Vt., and Heather Gleason of Williamstown. Andrew Wolf of Williamstown earned a associate of applied science in general engineering technology.
 
Emma Polumbo of Williamstown graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in psychology and business in the liberal arts from St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., on  May 22.  Polumbo attended Mount Greylock Regional High School.
 
 
The Rochester Institute of Technology, in Rochester, N.Y. congratulates the following local residents who have received degrees:
  • Ashley Martsen of East Otis received a BS in physics.
  • Thomas Gorski of Pittsfield received an MS in computing security.

Champlain College in Burlington, Vt. congratulates the following local students who graduated in the Spring of 2022: Thornton Fernbacher of Great Barrington completed their Bachelor of Science in Game Programming and Andrew Kerwood of Pittsfield completed their Bachelor of Science in Game Design.

Eukeria Asamoah, of Pittsfield, MA, a student at Fairleigh Dickinson University's Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck, N.J., has graduated with a MSN in NURS8 as of May 2022.
 
Noah Pott of Great Barrington, Mass., graduated Magna Cum Laude after majoring in theater and music at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. Pott, the son of David A. Pott and Alix E. von Auenmueller, is a 2018 graduate of Great Barrington Waldorf High School.

Hamilton College's annual Class & Charter Day took place on May 10. Established in 1950, the event combines the traditional Class Day celebrating the end of classes with a commemoration of the granting of college's charter on May 26, 1812. Academic and scholarly achievement prizes are awarded to students and faculty, and the following local students were among the award winners:
 
William Budington of Williamstown was named the recipient of the Senior Prize in Africana Studies. Budington, a senior majoring in Africana studies, is a graduate of Amherst Regional High School.
 
Jacob Hane of Williamstown was named the recipient of the Manley F. Allbright Fellowship. Hane, a senior majoring in classical languages, is a graduate of Mount Greylock Regional High School.
 
Isabelle Bote of Williamstown was named to the 2022 Dean's List. Bote, a May Graduate, majored in art history at Hamilton.
 
Xavier Vilaubi of Williamstown was named to the 2022 Dean's List. Vilaubi, a junior majoring in environmental studies, is a graduate of Mount Greylock Regional High School.
 
 

More than 300 Eastern Connecticut State University students were recognized for scholarly excellence at the conclusion of the spring 2022 semester. Among those honored by the Willimantic university was Ari Drayman of Dalton, a senior who majored in political science. Drayman was inducted into the Pi Sigma Alpha national honor society at the Political Science Department's annual induction on April 27 in Gelsi Young Hall.

 

Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y., has named William Frager of Great Barrington to the dean's list for the spring 2022 semester.
 
 
The following students have been named to the dean's list for the spring 2022 semester at the University of Vermont in Burlington: Patience Macpherson of Dalton, environmental studies major; Bom Bee Lahart of Lenox, elementary education major; Hunter Sarkis of Stamford, Vt., business administration major; and Owen Brandriss of Williamstown, mechanical engineering major.
 
Noah Payne of Pownal, Vt., a junior majoring in chemistry, was named a Presidential Scholar for the spring 2022 semester at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y.
 
 
A total of 1,457 students were named to the College of the Holy Cross' dean's list for outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester. The University of Hartford in West Hartford, Conn., has named nine lcoal students to the president's honors list and the dean's list for spring semster: Derek Alibozek and Mya Daigneault, both of Adams; Donovan Bond of Great Barrington; Karley Deets of Lenox; Brandon Cook, Emmagrace Nealon, Thomas Rabasco and Abigail Tynan, all of Pittsfield, and Brayden Smith of Williamstown. 

 

The University of Tampa in the state of Florida has named 1,912 students to the dean's list for the fall 2021 semester, including Paul Wales of Pittsfield, a senior majoring in sport management and Grace Cohan of Pittsfield, a junior majoring in communication, media and culture. 

 

The University of New Hampshire has named the following local students to its honors lists for the spring 2022 semester:

Assumption University in Worcester has named Amanda Moon of North Adams, graduating this year, and Jaylin Lacasse of Pittsfield, a sophomore, to the dean's list for the spring semester. 
 
Megan Foley of Ashley Falls, a nursing student at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Conn., has been named to the spring 2022 dean's list.
 
Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic recently released its dean's list for the spring 2022 semester, which includes Jenna Levesque of Cheshire, an art major, Ari Drayman of Dalton, a political science major.
 
Jacob Halverson and Ashlee Meczywor, both of Adams, and Jamie Boyle of Pownal have been named to the dean's list at Castleton (Vt.) University for the spring semester. Aubrey Tetlow of Williamstown was named to the president's list.
 
Mitchell Bath of Williamstown, was named to the Milwaukee School of Engineering's dean's list with high honors for the 2022 spring quarter. Bath is pursuing a bachelor of science in computer engineering.

Marya Makuc of Monterey has received the 2022 Pedro Arrupe Medal for Outstanding Service from College of the Holy Cross.

Emmanuel College in Boston has named the following local students to the dean's list for the spring 2022 semester: Grace Caccaviello of Dalton, Ashleigh Fawcett of Pittsfield, Cole Lander of Pittsfield and Sophia Marley of Pittsfield.

St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y congratulates the following local students for making the dean's list in the Spring 2022 semester: Isaiah Albright of North Adams, who is majoring in government, and Brennan McGowan of Williamstown, who is majoring in environmental studies.

Western New England University in Springfield has named the following local students for making the President's list in Spring 2022 semester. Noah Perault of Dalton, Dylan Brownson of Egremont, Daniel Buell of Hancock, Evan Sheridan of Lanesborough, William Carroll of Lenox and Nicole Sebastino of Pittsfield. 

Noah Pott of Great Barrington was named to the dean's list at Bates College in Lewiston, ME for the semester ending in April 2022. Pott, a senior at Bates majoring in theater and music, is a 2018 graduate of Great Barrington Waldorf High School.

Purchase College of Purchase, N.Y. congratulates Natalie Celebi of Pittsfield for making the dean's list in the Spring 2022 semester.
