Strong Pitching Lifts Pittsfield American 11s in Sectional Tourney

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A quartet of pitchers led the Pittsfield Little League American Division 11-year-old All-Stars to an 8-4 win over Holden on Thursday in the first game of the state sectional playoffs at Deming Park.
 
Starter Cooper Reed went 2 and one third innings with five strikeouts while allowing just one run on one hit. Mateo Fox then three of the four batters he faced in a strong inning of work.
 
Bryce Hoff allowed two runs on two hits in 2 and a third innings before giving the ball to Matt Keegan, who retired the only batter he faced to end the game.
 
Offensively, Pittsfield American had two big hits from Keegan, who drove in two runs on a first-inning single and another run on a fifth-inning single. Pittsfield also scored on an RBI double from Kydd Kearns in the second inning.
 
With the score tied, 4-4, going into the sixth, Jacob Welch and Mike Klinger had base hits, and Kearns drew a walk to set the stage for a two-out base hit by Hoff that scored one run, putting PIttsfield up 5-4. Reed then delivered a huge two-out double that cleared the bases, driving in three runs and pushing the Pittsfield American lead to 8-4.
