PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Little League American Division 11-year-old All-Stars lost its first game of the state sectional tournament on Sunday, losing to Longmeadow in five innings with a score of 3-6.

Now, they face a do-or-die game for all the marbles on Monday night.

Kydd Kearns was the lone scorer of the first inning for Pittsfield American, scoring a run early in the top of the inning and putting the team up 1-0 to start the game. Longmeadow, however, quickly answered back in the bottom of the first, with the score tied at 1-1 to end the inning.

Both teams were scoreless in the second inning, thanks in part to the pitching of Cooper Reed, who struck out two in the frame for Pittsfield American.

He finished with five strikeouts in five innings of work.

Pittsfield American played well offensively in the third inning, with both Oren Lewis and Bryce Hoff scoring runs. On defense, the team again held Longmeadow scoreless, ending the inning with a 3-1 lead.

The Americans struggled in the fourth, and Longmeadow took advantage to go ahead, 6-3.

Pittsfield American was able to load the bases in the top of the fifth inning, giving the team the chance to tie or take the lead, but Longmeadow's infield defense managed to keep the team from scoring.

Following the loss, Pittsfield American (2-1) will play at Longmeadow again on Monday for a winner-take-all final in the double-elimination tournament.
