NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Andrew Hammill went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and seven RBIs Wednesday to lead the Pittsfield Babe Ruth 14-year-old All-Stars to a 20-8 win over Maine champion Tri-County in the New England Championships.
Pittsfield put the game away with a six-run top of the sixth inning to make a winner of Cam Hillard, who allowed five earned runs in 3 and two-thirds innings on the mound.
Noah Arnold finished up on the hill, allowing one earned run in 2 and a third innings.
Jackson Almeida, Eddie Ferris and Connor Paronto each had three hits in a 23-hit attack for Pittsfield, which went through five Tri-County pitchers.
Pittsfield (1-0) continues pool play on Thursday morning when it takes on Waterford, Conn., an 11-0 winner over Rhode Island champion Cranston on Wednesday. Last July, Pittsfield beat Waterford, 6-0, in the regional final to advance to Babe Ruth World Series.
