Maroon celebrates its win on Wednesday in the title game of the Pittsfield Soccer League's seven-on-seven summer season. |
PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Chris Considine scored in the 38th minute Wednesday to give the Maroon a 1-0 win over FC Berkshire in the summer championship game of the Pittsfield Soccer League.
Considine snuck behind the defense deep on the right wing and found the back of the net to give his team the win one year after it dropped a decision on penalty kicks in the league final.
“I got a lucky break,” Considine said afterward. “They broke down once, probably, [FC Berkshire’s] defense was solid all day. And I was lucky enough to slot it away.”
FC Berkshire dominated the first half at Wahconah Park, generating eight shots on goal to the Maroon’s one, hitting the side panel once and registering a couple of near misses.
Jeff Egan made eight of his 12 saves in that first 25-minute half on his way to the shutout win in goal.
In the second half, the Maroon took it to FC Berkshire a couple of times in the opening minutes and played a more even game throughout, keeping the shots on goal even at four apiece.
“We stuck together and did our best on defense,” Considine said of the second half turnaround. “And we really consolidated as a team, so we did well.”
Still, FC Berkshire kept fighting down to the final minute, getting a shot off the post in the closing seconds.
Mark Marzotto made four saves in the FC Berkshire goal.
The summer season behind it, the Pittsfield Soccer League turns its attention to its fall season, starting on Aug. 28.
