NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Pittsfield 14-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars Friday opened the New England Regional with a 4-3 win over Stamford, Conn.

 

After giving up a run in the top of the first, Pittsfield scored twice in the bottom of the frame and twice in the second for all the offense Bryce Hoff needed.

 

Hoff allowed just two runs in six innings of work on the mound before giving the ball to Kevin Smith, who struck out the side in order in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

 

Hoff helped his cause by going 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored on offense.

 

Noah Malone was 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Aiden Arseneau was 1-for-1 at the plate and scored twice.

 

Pittsfield (1-0 in pool play) takes on the Maine State Champion on Saturday afternoon.
