@theMarket: Have Odds Improved for a Fed Rate Cut?

This week's inflation data heartened investors. Equities and commodities rose while bond yields and the dollar fell. The question is whether the data will convince the Fed to relent on keeping interest rates higher for longer.   If we take a long-term view, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) change was minuscule. For April, inflation gains slowed from 3.5 percent to 3.4 percent, while core inflation increased over the last 12 months by 3.4 percent compared to 3.5 percent in March. Flushing of Pittsfield's Water System: Phase 4

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Monday, May 20 marks the final phase for the flushing of the City of Pittsfield's water system.   Water mains throughout the city will be flushed through hydrants to remove accumulations of pipeline corrosion products. Mains will be flushed Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. from May 20 to May 24.   The upcoming flushing for this week may be expected to affect the following areas: Cascade and Churchill streets. BCC Offers Summer Classes

Pittsfield Says 'Thank You' to Veterans with Free Parking

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — City officials have decided to thank veterans for their service with free parking starting June 1.

The City Council on Tuesday approved an ordinance allowing veterans to park in municipal lots and spaces at no charge. This was brought forward by Ward 1 Councilor Kenneth Warren, Ward 4 Councilor James Conant, and Ward 5 Councilor Patrick Kavey.

The original proposal was for veterans with designated plates but to ensure equity, it was amended to allow veterans with regular plates to register with the city for free parking. Warren came to the meeting with an amended proposal after suggestions were made during a subcommittee meeting last month.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Wednesday, May 15 Douglas Agyeh, age 44 ofPittsfield, pleaded guilty to 23 charges.    Agyeh pleaded guilty to: 5 counts of Indecent Assault and Battery on a Person Over 14 9 counts of Rape of a Child with Force 9 counts of Rape of a Child, Aggravated by Age The Defendant was sentenced to 10 to 12 years for the charges of rape and 3 to 5 years concurrent for the charges of indecent assault and battery. The Defendant will serve his sentence in state prison.   According to a report, in 2021 Agyeh was employed at a residential school for youth. Berkshire County Historical Society Awarded Grants

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire County Historical Society has received a $10,000 historic preservation grant from Preservation Massachusetts in association with the 1772 Foundation.    In addition, BCHS has received a $15,000 grant from the Jane and Jack Fitzpatrick Trust.    These grants will be used to replace lost historic louvered shutters to Herman Melville's historic home Arrowhead. Restoring these important architectural elements is in keeping with BCHS's mission to preserve and interpret Arrowhead returning the house to its Melville-era (1850s-1860s) appearance.   This project has grown out of information learned from a Historic Structure
