BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll Administration launched a Climate Science Advisory Panel through the new Massachusetts Office of Climate Science (OCS) to provide expertise on statewide climate science and future projections used to inform state and local climate adaptation planning and projects. BOSTON – Secretary of Administration and Finance Matthew J. Gorzkowicz, Senate Ways and Means Chair Michael J. Rodrigues and House Ways and Means Chair Aaron Michlewitz agreed on a consensus revenue forecast for Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) of $40.202 billion. Secretary Gorzkowicz also announced a decrease of $1 billion to the FY24 state tax revenue estimate to $39.410 billion, based on current year-to-date revenues and economic data. The new FY25 consensus revenue estimate of $40.202 billion represents $208 million less in available revenue than what was used to build the FY24 budget, and a 2 percent increase above revised FY24 estimates, excluding surtax.  DALTON, Mass. — Residents may have the option of so-called "green" burials in the future. Also referred to as "natural burials," green burials are a way of returning bodies to the earth after death without a metal casket, burial liner or vault, or embalming, according to the nonprofit Green Burial Massachusetts. The cemetery trustees are still very early on in the process of establishing green burials. There are a lot of unknowns surrounding the service they need to explore first, the trustees said. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The new School Committee met for the first time on Wednesday, organizing its leadership and approving a budget calendar for fiscal 2025. William Cameron was re-elected chair, Daniel Elias as vice chair, and newcomer William Garrity as clerk. A 2022 Taconic High graduate and a former student representative, Garrity brings a fresh perspective to the committee.
"I just want to thank the voters of Pittsfield for electing me to the School Committee," he said. "It's great to technically be back. I'm excited for this term."
