Pittsfield ConCom Considers Conservation Restriction

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Conservation Commission supports efforts to place a conservation restriction on a Knox Road property.

At its first meeting of the year last Thursday, the panel voted to support joining the Berkshire Natural Resource Council to co-hold a conservation restriction on a 48-acre parcel of the Scace family farm. A formal vote will be taken at the next meeting and will have to be finalized by the mayor and city council.

"It's just about crossing the T's and dotting the I's," Chair and Ward 4 Councilor James Conant said.

The commissioners would like to see firmer documentation before the vote.

State to Boost Reimbursement Rates for Child Care Providers

WORCESTER, Mass.— The Board of Early Education and Care unanimously approved the Healey-Driscoll Administration's changes to how the state reimburses early education and care providers who accept state child care financial assistance, known as rates.    Child care providers across Massachusetts will start to receive at least a 5.5 percent increase to their daily per child reimbursement rate beginning in February 2024, an increase of over $2,000 a year on average per child. They will also soon receive a one-time retroactive payment to account for the increased rates back to July 1, 2023.    The approved rates make progress on addressing long-standing inequities

ServiceNet Acquires Jodi's Flower Farm for Vocational Programming

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Jodi's Seasonal will have a new life providing meaningful, therapeutic employment to people with intellectual disabilities.

Last week, ServiceNet announced its acquisition of the 16-acre flower farm on Crane Avenue. It will be renamed Prospect Meadow Farm Berkshires, which is a part of the agency's Developmental and Brain Injury Services division.

Dalton Traffic Commission Comments on Dalton Division Designs

DALTON, Mass. —  The Traffic Commission weighed in last week on the preliminary design options for Dalton Division Road that were presented last month.   The commission's discussion focused on the sewer line, sidewalks, and intersection of Williams Street, Washington Mountain Road and Mountain Road.    Some commissioners felt that installing a sewer line on the Dalton side and not include the city if Pittsfield is "silly" because of the cost of the cost and future ramifications it could have.    "It seems rather silly to me to put a line down the Dalton side of the road and not include the city of Pittsfield in that same area,"

Pittsfield Councilor Presses for Road Repairs

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Roadwork remains a hot topic in the City Council's new term.

The council took up a petition last week from Councilor at Large Earl Persip III seeking an update from Commissioner of Public Utilities Ricardo Morales on a road patch at 181 Elm St. Persip requested that the patch be fixed last year, as it extends into the center of the lane and is not level.
