PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City of Pittsfield’s Wahconah Park Restoration Committee will be hosting a public meeting on Thursday, June 15 at 7:00p.m. This meeting will take place at the Berkshire Athenaeum located at 1 Wendell Avenue in the auditorium. At this meeting, the Wahconah Park Restoration Committee and the design team that is working with the city will share an overview of the project. Attendees will also have an opportunity to share their thoughts on the future vision for an improved facility. This meeting is the first in a series of workshops that will be offered to the public.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Community Preservation Committee has voted to fund an out-of-cycle application for Arrowhead chimney repairs.
On Monday, the panel approved a $10,000 allocation of Community Preservation Act monies for Berkshire Historical Society to repair a chimney that is compromising the former home of author Herman Melville. This is in addition to the nearly $649,000 in projects that the commission voted to fund in March. It will go to the City Council for final approval.
"We are seeking to restore the chimney in the rear ell of Arrowhead. This is the more modern part of Arrowhead so the chimney itself does not date back to the earliest areas of the house,"

DALTON, Mass. — The Central Berkshire Regional School Committee approved various money, time, and material donations during its meeting on Thursday night. A car wash fundraising event to fund the Wahconah Student Activity Fund was approved for June 2. The committee voted to accept donations of time and supplies from LeBeau Landscaping and Excavations for a clean up and revitalization for the football field. It also approved the donation of a pallet of water equating to more than 2,000 bottles to be donated to Nessacus Regional Middle School from Premium Waters Inc. On Wednesday, June 7, the Berkshire County Historical Society will host author Lorraine German when she discusses her book "Soil and Shul in the Berkshires: The Untold Story of Sandisfield's Jewish Farm Colony." This free event will take place at Herman Melville's historic barn at Arrowhead beginning at 5:30 pm. Reservations are not required. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing. This event is sponsored by MountainOne. DALTON, Mass. — The town has entered into preliminary negotiations for a solar alternative on-bill credit agreement with Citizens Enterprises Corp. under the Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target program. If Citizens Energy signs up for the state program, Eversource is told that it can allocate credits to the certain list of customers that Citizens Energy anchors. The Select Board expressed concerns regarding the agreement during its meeting on Monday night noting that there are too many unknowns. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — A request that the town transfer $40,000 from the stabilization fund so the town can retain services from Jacunski Humes Architects will be added to the town meeting warrant for June 13. The Select Board approved adding this request to the warrant during its meeting on May 30, Public Safety Building Committee chair Mark Siegars said during its meeting last week. "It just takes a vote to take it out and let us finish this work so we are not asking them to raise and appropriate the taxes. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Firefighters extinguished a Parker Street structure fire that was caused by faulty electrical wiring. Firefighters responded to a structure fire on 111 Parker St. early Tuesday morning. Upon arrival, firefighters were told by the homeowner that they were awoken by smoke detectors and there was heavy smoke in the attic. Firefighters narrowed the source to an electrical box in the insulation between the attic and the second floor. Firefighters quickly got the fire under control. BOSTON — Due to smoke from Canadian wildfires that continue to influence our area, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) is issuing a statewide air quality alert effective from midnight, June 6, 2023, until midnight, June 7, 2023. Currently, air quality conditions in North Berkshire are "Moderate" while in Central Berkshire it is "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups." Smoke is expected to enter western sections of the state later tonight and spread eastward through much of the state during the overnight and early morning hours on Tuesday.
