ADAMS, Mass. — Berkshire Arts and Technology (BArT) Charter Public School is currently accepting applications for students in grades 6 through 10 for the 2023-2024 school year and the 2024-2025 school year. The first enrollment deadline for the 2024-2025 school year is Thursday, Feb. 29 at noon. The easiest way to apply is to visit https://bartcharter.schoolmint.com/. DALTON, Mass. — The last sewer bill that the town received from Pittsfield was $70,852.75 more than the originally estimated. According to Pittsfield's Finance Director Matthew Kerwood, Mayor-elect Peter Marchetti will look favorably on a new approach to rate increases that will make budgeting for Dalton more predictable, however there will still be some level of fluctuation from any estimate, Town Manager Thomas Hutcheson said. Marchetti is proposing an "annual increase at some objectively defensible rate, perhaps the Consumer Price Index" rather than once every three years, Hutcheson said.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Taconic High School's automotive program now has a "Thundra" pickup that students can train on.
The School Committee on Wednesday accepted the donation of the 2023 Toyota Tundra for the high school's auto technology program. The truck is valued at more than $37,300 and will increase students' knowledge of Toyota maintenance and repair as part of the Toyota TECS, or Technician Education College Support, elite training program.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield will be turning out to pay tribute to Air Force Staff. Sgt. Jacob Galliher as his remains are returned home on Friday. Galliher, 24, was killed when the Osprey aircraft he was on crashed off the coast of Japan along with seven other crew members. The Taconic High School graduate left behind his wife and 2-year-old and 6-week-old sons. DALTON, Mass. — A special town meeting approved the transfer of $25,000 from General Stabilization to the Police Details Fund. Councilors on Tuesday debate the tax shift differential for fiscal 2024 before voting 6-4 to approve as presented. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Despite the pain of raising taxes, a majority of the City Council members agreed that it is their responsibility to approve 2024 tax classification so that the city doesn't fall behind. The council approved during its last meeting of the term a residential shift factor of 0.8151 that will result in a residential rate of $18.45 per $1,000 of valuation and a commercial rate of $39.61 per $1,000.
