 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Downtown Pittsfield Inc. is celebrating Small Business Saturday with a "Passport to Downtown Pittsfield" event in an effort to support local businesses. "For downtown Pittsfield Inc. it really is our goal right now to bring shoppers downtown and have them purchase things in the small businesses really that's what the day is about," Managing Director Rebecca Brien said. This Saturday shoppers are encouraged to visit downtown Pittsfield to support small local businesses and for a chance to win a prize package. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city for the most part remains on the downward trend from two fall COVID-19 surges as the region enters the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Last week, Director of Public Health Andy Cambi reported to the City Council that Pittsfield is recovering from two fall surges. He did remind the panel of last year's holiday surge that pushed the city into the red zone and said residents should always be thinking about protecting themselves.
Because other metrics don't include at-home tests, Cambi has indicated that the city's Biobot sewage testing is the truest way to gauge the virus's impact on the community.

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department recommends Vermonters wait to put up bird feeders until Dec. 1 to avoid attracting bears. "Winter bird feeding is a good way to attract birds arriving from Canada, including evening grosbeaks and purple finches, as well as resident birds including northern cardinals and black-capped chickadees," said Doug Morin, Vermont Fish and Wildlife's bird project leader.  LENOX, Mass. — The Catwalk Boutique in Lenox opened on Nov. 17 in its newest location at 51 Church St. It's the third time this Berkshire Humane Society benefit store has opened since 2018. The new space is on the main street so it has plenty of light unlike the previous location, 53 Church St., behind the new space, sales associate Mary Farrell said. The original Catwalk Boutique, located at 325 Stockbridge Road in Great Barrington, continues to operate, as it has since 2014 near the society's cat-exclusive shelter Purradise. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Residents of Berkshire County can get their cat spayed or neutered for a $50 registration fee, which includes surgery and a rabies vaccination, through a grant awarded to Berkshire Humane Society from Massachusetts Animal Coalition's license plate program. This is the 9th year the shelter has received an award to support 100 Cats for the Holidays, a low-cost spay and neuter initiative. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — While some may be busy preparing turkeys and sides for Thursday's big feast, others may want to go out on the town and connect with old friends the night before. The night before Thanksgiving, has become a popular bar night for adults largely because people are home for the holiday.
Last year, BeerBoard reported an more than 62 percent rise in on-premise alcohol sales the night before Thanksgiving compared to the previous Wednesday.
Urban Dictionary describes the unofficial holiday as "one of the biggest party nights of the year since this is the start of Thanksgiving weekend and most people are home for the holidays at this time."

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — With a new state administration taking over next year, the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission on Thursday discussed its priorities for the county. "We have an opportunity that only comes along every few years really where we have a new administration coming in," Executive Director Thomas Matuszko said to the committee last week.

Pittsfield Police Investigating Onota St. Shooting Incident Staff Reports ,

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Police are investigating a shooting on Onota Street that resulted in no injuries. On Nov. 21, at approximately 7:42 PM, Pittsfield Police officers were dispatched to the area of 242 Onota Street for a ShotSpotter activation. Upon their arrival, officers spoke with a witness who reported seeing a man wearing all black clothing fleeing from the scene after the shooting, heading towards Chestnut Street, according to police. A house on Onota Street was also struck several times by gunfire. The K9 unit conducted a track in the area. An area search was conducted but no one was found. An Affordable Housing Proposal
Units of affordable housing in Berkshire County need not be created with a one size fits all mindset. Affordable for who? Very often affordable housing is very costly, even excessively so for its creators or municipalities.
Here are some ground rules for a modest proposal taking these issues into consideration. First, not all units have to be built/completed at once. They can be put into place/built over a number of years, as budgets permit. Infrastructure costs should be kept low by using very close-by already existing infra structure.
