 DALTON, Mass. – Brayden Durant hit a two-run home run Thursday to help the Adams-Cheshire Little League 12-year-old All-Stars to a 6-5 win over the Pittsfield Little League National Division in the Don Gleason District 1 Tournament at Chamberlain Park. Mikey Durant drove in a pair of runs for Adams-Cheshire, which improved to 2-0 in round robin play in the five-team tournament. Julius Valentine earned the win on the mound with 4 and a third innings pitched. Carson Kelly Phillips picked up the save.  WESTFIELD, Mass. – Gavin Maffuccio doubled in a pair of runs in a four-run rally that put the Pittsfield Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars on top for good in a 7-2 win over Westfield to claim the Western Massachusetts Championship on Thursday night. Sebastian Herrera went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Sam Gyurjan doubled in a run for Pittsfield, which earned a berth in the New England Regional Championship with a sweep of the best-of-three series against Westfield. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Police are investigating a July 4 hit and run that left a woman severly injured. According to a police report, on July 4, 2023, at approximately 10:03 P.M., the Pittsfield Police Department, Pittsfield Fire Department and County Ambulance, were dispatched to the area of 194 Second St for a report of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle, which had left the scene. As a result of the initial investigation, it was determined that a southbound Ford F-150 pickup, being operated by 65 year old Jeffrey Miles, of Pittsfield, struck 33 year old Shaquanna Turnage, also of Pittsfield, as she was walking southbound in the roadway. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Supreme Judicial Court has ruled that residents can be rude to elected officials during open microphone. This comes with mixed feelings from city councilors.
Last month, the Ordinances and Rules subcommittee unanimously approved an amendment to its rules that follows the SJC's decision that regulating the substance of public commenters is "unconstitutional."
This includes the use of hate speech.
Pittsfield's rules largely conform with the exception of a sentence that states a speaker shall refrain from any personal attacks. City Solicitor Stephen Pagnotta revised it to state that the public comment period should be conducted in an orderly

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Work and Family Mobility Act, which went into effect on July 1, provides hope and a sense of ease for immigrants across the commonwealth.
This week, community leaders were staged outside of the Registry of Motor Vehicles providing assistance and support after the act made it possible for residents to apply for a standard class D or M driver's license regardless of immigration status.
"I summarize it as hope for people that things can get better," activist Clemente Sajquiy said on Monday. "They are going to be finally able to drive freely without being afraid of being pulled over and their cars being taken from them."

Let's Go Paperless | This is from Ward 6 Councilor John Krol's eblast today. His switch to digital immediately caught our attention. With the associated costs - nearly $4,000 a year for paper alone! - zipping councilors "the packet" (as we in the know like to call it) over the ether makes loads of sense.
Digital also means the average citizen gets far better access to these public documents than ever before. The city clerk's office has been diligent about posting meeting agendas and, where possible, relevant documents. So in terms of saving money and time and getting information out efficiently, digital is the way to go.
I would like to thank City Clerk Linda Tyer for agreeing to print out one less city council packet, as I have officially gone paperless for council meetings - which I hope will be a trend that can be extended throughout city government.
 The bulky (and often, very bulky) city council packet that councilors use for a reference costs an average of $170 per meeting for paper alone. Add the additional costs of ink/toner, wear and tear on city hall copiers, and the time and energy of staff who put it all together - and a simple transition away from paper benefits everyone.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Dozens of youths, many of them under the age of 5, attended an open house at the Berkshire Music School Saturday, as the educational nonprofit enters its 70th year at its 30 Wendell Avenue home.
The open house featured a sample class, access to musical instruments, information for parents, refreshments... and more than a few delighted squeals, proving once again the inherent interest in making a joyful noise is not generational, and will never go out of style.
