Berkshire Athenaeum Teen Neon Party

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Celebrate the solar eclipse at the library, and join the Teen Neon Party on April 8, 2024, 2:45 – 5 pm.    Teens 12 – 18 can view the cosmic event by watching a live-stream in the auditorium and then attend a music-filled black light dance party with DJ Chris Plankey.   There will be pizza, snacks, glow sticks, glow-in-the-dark slime making, board games, video games, and more. Come dressed in neon. This event meets in the auditorium.   No registration required.

Marchetti Defends Pittsfield Tax Rates in Advance of FY25 Budget

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mayor Peter Marchetti defended the city's tax rate on Tuesday, asking residents to look at all of the figures before making a judgment.

While Pittsfield ranked the highest tax rate countywide in fiscal 2024, the average bill ranked 10th. The administration also provided data showing that there has been a 37.9 percent increase in the value of single-family homes from FY20 to FY24 and a 6.4 percent decrease in the residential tax rate during this period.

Pittsfield Subcommittee Supports Arrowhead Sewer Extension

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Finance Committee on Monday supported a $650,000 borrowing under the Sewer Enterprise Fund for a connection to Herman Melville's Arrowhead.

The approximately 700-foot extension includes the installation of two deep manholes and will connect two properties to the city sewer. Construction will cost $500,000, a 20 percent contingency will cost $100,000, and the construction administration and resident engineer will cost $50,000.

Wahconah Apollonian Players Perform 'Into the Woods' this Weekend

There some 50 students who make up the cast and technical team, including 16 from Nessacus Middle School.  DALTON, Mass. — Wahconah High School Apollonian Players will be performing the musical "Into the Woods" this weekend.    The show will run on Friday, April 5, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 6, at 1 and 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium. Pittsfield and State Clash Over Causeway Project, Causing Delay

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city and the state Department of Transportation are clashing over logistics of the Dan Casey Memorial Drive reconstruction, halting its progress.

The Public Works and Utilities subcommittee on Monday heard an update on the project per the request of resident Daniel Miraglia. The often flooded area is the subject of a more than million-dollar reconstruction that includes replacing the causeway's three existing culverts.

Commissioner of Public Services and Utilities Ricardo Morales reported that the city is "in a sense kind of fighting with the state" about the design. It was supposed to go out to bid in 2022.

Pittsfield Police Seek Info on Armed Robbery

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Police are looking for the public's assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a recent armed robbery.   Lipton Mart gas station located at 320 West Housatonic St. was robbed shortly before 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, by a man brandishing a black handgun.    The subject left with an undisclosed amount of cash along with a few other items.
