Local Skiers Compete in U14 Slalom at BousquetiBerkshires.com Sports,

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Sophie Lenoel Quang of the Bousquet Race Team on Sunday skied to a second place finish at the Tri-State Under-14 Championship at Bousquet Mountain. Quang compiled a two-run slalom time of 1 minute, 38.19 seconds to finish behind Berkshire East's Marina Matviak (1:30.41). Three Bousquet Race Team girls competed in the slalom race on their home mountain. Adelina Scalise-Lampiasi placed 43rd with a two-run time of 2:12.96. Aryanna Bouchard did not finish her first run but skied a time of 1:08.17 in her second run. In the boys slalom event, five Bousquet Race Team racers competed.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Following the death of a pedestrian in a West Street crosswalk, community members are demanding action for safer public ways.
On Saturday, the Pittsfield Community Design Center founder Nicholas Russo led a walking group through a portion of the corridor to show issues with navigation. The procession began at Dorothy Amos Park.
He explained that the event aimed to call attention to the crash that killed Pittsfield resident Shaloon Milord in January and the national trend of increasing traffic fatalities.
"We want to not contribute to those statistics," Russo said. "We want to get to zero deaths."

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The School Committee voted to pilot the "Imagine Learning: Language & Literacy" program last week. This is a supplemental computer-based English language program for multilingual students that is available in 12 languages for kindergarten through eighth grade. It was piloted at Morningside Community and Williams Elementary schools but has since been integrated into all the elementary schools and expanded into the middle schools. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Affordable Housing Trust member Michael McCarthy asked his colleagues: How do we leverage trust fund monies for quality affordable housing?
"I represent a lot of people and I've spoken with a lot of people about this issue and I'm thinking that one of the things that we should focus on as our trust is to figure out how our money can be a catalyst for developers or current owners of rental properties to make it affordable for them to make their properties nice while still keeping rents affordable and low," the attorney said last week.
"I think that's where we would get the most bang for our buck."
