PITTSFIELD, Mass. — State Sen. Paul Mark and state Sen. Robyn Kennedy of Worcester, chair for the Joint Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities, recently spent time visiting Berkshire County Arc's programs. Mark is also a member of the joint committee. During their visit, they spent time discussing short- and long-term plans for human services in Massachusetts. BCArc offers a broad range of community-based services to individuals with developmental disabilities, brain injuries and autism. DALTON, Mass. — After revisions, community comment, and deliberations that required three meetings to complete, the Planning Board voted last week to approve the special permit for Ray Robert Excavation & Trucking. Owner Ray Robert had requested a new special permit to improve clarity of its conditions and to extend his operating and crushing hours. The new special permit would grant heavy industrial use in the Planned Industrial Development District. BOSTON – The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) issued draft regulations to strengthen wetlands and stormwater resilience by providing flood control and preventing storm damage to shorelines and infrastructure from the impacts of climate change. The proposed regulations will help protect areas vulnerable to sea-level rise and storm surge, promote nature-based solutions to flooding, streamline certain permitting processes, and use updated precipitation data to inform decision-making. The regulations are proposed under the Wetlands Protection Act and the Massachusetts Public Waterfront Act. MassDEP will accept comments on the draft regulations

The sled library would hold up to about 20 sleds. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Clapp Park will soon have a community-led sled library to spread the joy of winter activities.
Last week, the Parks Commission granted resident Lindsey Marion permission to place a free sled box near the scoreboard at the park. It will hold a collection of sleds that visitors can borrow and use on the property's impressive hill while fostering community engagement.
Now, the city just needs snow.

Christmas Eve Fire Burns Pittsfield Home to GroundBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A fire that started on Christmas Eve burned a Partridge Road home to the ground while its occupants were out. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries but the house, which is largely charred down the foundation, is a total loss and remains under investigation.
The Fire Department initially responded around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday night to a call about a blaze at 301 Partridge Road. Fire was showing through the roof of the single-story structure when firefighters arrived and a second alarm was called.

BOSTON —?The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources' (MDAR) Division of Animal Health is advising dog owners of a canine parvovirus (commonly called "parvo") outbreak in Franklin County. At least one dog, recently purchased from Jason Whitmore at 35 Daniel Shay's Highway in Orange, Massachusetts, has been affected. The property is currently under quarantine. Anyone who may have purchased a puppy or dog from this source on or after December 1, 2023, should contact their veterinarian immediately if their animal exhibits any symptoms. BOSTON — The state's November total unemployment rate was 2.9 percent, up 0.1 percentage point from the revised October estimate of 2.8 percent, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development announced Friday. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) preliminary job estimates indicate Massachusetts gained 3,200 jobs in November. This follows October's revised loss of 500 jobs. The largest over-the-month private sector job gains were in Leisure and Hospitality, Financial Activities, and Government. Employment now stands at 3,786,200. BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced the winners of the second annual, "Name A Snowplow" contest for statewide elementary and middle school students in Massachusetts. The winning plow names are Flower Plower, Edward Blizzardhands, Glacier Gobbler, Polar Pathmaker, Snow B Wan Kenobi, The Snolar Express, Sleetwood Mac, Snow Place Like Home, Snow-hemian Rhapsody, The Mayplower, Snow Monstah, Fast and Flurryous. This contest received entries from public school classrooms from across Massachusetts. The contest chose names for 12 MassDOT snowplows that will be in service during this 2023/2024 winter season.
