Governor Nominates New Parole Board Member

BOSTON — Governor Maura T. Healey nominated Sarah B. Coughlin to the Massachusetts Parole Board.    Coughlin is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor who currently serves as the Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships at Mass General Brigham.      "Sarah Coughlin has a wide range of experience in many critical areas that will inform her work on the Parole Board, including violence prevention, restorative justice, diversion, re-entry, substance use disorder and mental health services, and community engagement," said Governor Healey. Liann Bordeau-Buck Memorial Foundation Holds Golf Tournament

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Liann Bordeau-Buck Memorial Foundation will be raising money for its scholarship fund with a golf tournament on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Miraval Berkshires Resort in Lenox.    The foundation has been holding this event since its establishment seven years ago in honor of Liann Bordeau-Buck, who died following complications from a Cesarean section following the birth of her only child.    Since its creation, the organization has been raising and donating funds to help students at Bordeau-Buck's alma mater, Taconic High School, obtain their educational goals, acting foundation President Jessica Autenrieth

Lanesborough Connector Road Closures for Repaving

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The Connector Road (Mall Road) will be closed to through traffic for several days in September for milling and resurfacing.    The byway between Route 7 and Route 8 will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5; Wednesday, Sept. 6, and Thursday, Sept. 7; and again from Monday, Sept. 11, to Wednesday, Sept. 13.    It will be open overnight on those dates.    Dates may change depending upon weather, any updates to closure dates will be posted.

Berkshire Athenaeum Announces 2023 Short Story Contest Winners

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield's Public Library, and the Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum announced the winners of the 45th Annual Short Story Writing Contest for Children and the 26th Annual Short Story Writing Contest for Young Adults.   Entries were combined into four age categories with a total of 31 submissions. A committee of judges read through the submissions and rated the entries on originality, appeal, writing style, and artwork, if applicable. Berkshire Health Systems Announces Paving at BMC Main Entrance

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) announced blacktop removal and paving at the main entrance of Berkshire Medical Center as part of the ongoing mechanical infrastructure work at the neighboring Medical Arts Complex (MAC).     On Tuesday, Sept. 5, contractors will remove blacktop from the northbound lane of the main driveway entrance to the hospital at 725 North Street. Traffic will move to the southbound lane at various points during the day. Paving will take place on Wednesday, September 6, and similar traffic restrictions will apply.     Flaggers will be onsite for both days to manage traffic while the work takes place. Please allow

Berkshire United Way Donates School Supplies for 14 Schools

PITTSFIELD, Mass.—Berkshire United Way has partnered with community members and local organizations to donate school supplies to 14 schools across the county.    For the last few days Berkshire United Way and its partners, Greylock Federal Credit Union, Lenco Armored Vehicles, and Kiwanis Club of South County, have been dropping the supplies off at the schools.    Director of Volunteer Engagement Brenda Petell said the cost of going back to school is expensive. MassDOT Grant Opportunities for the Safe Routes to School

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), through its Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program, announced the launch of the 2023-2024 Signs and Lines Program and Infrastructure Funding Program grant opportunities.

Both programs seek to provide funding though a competitive application process to help facilitate the development of construction projects in areas immediately surrounding public elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the Commonwealth.

The application period opened for both grant opportunities on Aug. 23. All SRTS partner schools, that have been a partner for at least six months as of Aug. 23, are encouraged to apply for both grants and

Pittsfield Residents Argue Over West Street/Holmes Road Changes

Pittsfield launches PermitEyes 20/20 permitting

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City of Pittsfield launched the latest version of the online permitting program, PermitEyes with the release of PermitEyes 20/20.    PermitEyes 20/20 is a modular, cloud-based system which allows municipalities to electronically receive applications, collect electronic payments, track inspections, and issue permits.   Beginning on Monday, Sept. 11, the new version of PermitEyes will be live for the Health Department.
