Dalton Elections See High Turn Out; Select Board Incumbent Wins

DALTON, Mass. — More than 800 residents cast their votes during Monday's town elections, resulting in Select Board incumbent Robert Bishop retaining his seat.   "I feel like it was it was a high turnout. We had a lot of mail-in ballots … I think the one contested Select Board race definitely brought people out," Town Clerk Heather Hunt said.    "I think we saw a lot of voters that we haven't seen in a very long time, and I think a lot of them came out specifically to vote for the Select Board."    The town sent out approximately 823 mail-in ballots and received back more than half, Hunt said.    Bishop has served on

BCC to Offer CDL License Training

ConCom Sends Enforcement Order to Pittsfield Country Club

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Conservation Commission is disappointed to see wetland violations at the Pittsfield County Club, stating the new maintenance superintendent should "know better."

Last week, the panel ratified an enforcement order for unauthorized land disturbance and vegetation removal within bordering land subject to flooding, bordering vegetated wetlands, inland bank, and buffer zones.

"Essentially what happened was the golf course superintendent had cleared woody vegetation, some of the woody vegetation was substantially sized, along areas that the commission regulates," Conservation Agent Robert Van Der Car said.

Dalton Board of Health Amends Green Burial Verbiage

DALTON, Mass. —T he Board of Health amended the green burial guidelines during its meeting on Wednesday.    In April, the board approved the guidelines stating that "Ebola or any other diseases that the CDC or Massachusetts Department of Public Health deem unsuitable for green burials can not be approved by the town Board of Health."   Following communication with the state Department of Environmental Protection, the board on Wednesday voted to revise it to add Anthrax and Prion to the list of diseases deemed unsuitable for green burials.   The revised guidelines say that if the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or state DEP "deems any

PITTSFIELD, Mass. –  The CIAO Soccer Hall of Fame induction and scholarship banquet and presentations were held on Thursday, May 9, at Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield.   The 2024 inductees were honored and 21 scholarships of $1,000 each were presented.   Committee Chairmen Al Belanger and Patrick West introduced inductees and scholarship winners at the event. Deadline Approaching For Pittsfield Parade

PITTSFIELD, Mass. The deadline for participating in the 4th of July Parade is June 1.

There are typically about 170 units in each parade which is comprised of community groups, veterans' groups, fire departments, floats, balloons, musical units, and elected officials.

Pittsfield Schools Summer Meal Program Returning

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The school district has sponsored a summer meal program for children for nearly 50 years and it will return this season.

The School Committee on Wednesday approved the 2024 Summer Food Service Program that begins the business day after school ends. It is open to children under the age of 18 regardless of if they are enrolled in Pittsfield Public Schools.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — One case of child abuse is too many, Berkshire leaders say.

The steps of City Hall were lined with 56 pairs of children's shoes on Friday, representing the average number of children with confirmed abuse and neglect cases each month in the county. The Children's Trust and Child Care of the Berkshires coordinate this shocking visual yearly.

Flushing of the Pittsfield’s Water System: May 13-17

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Monday, May 13 marks the start of phase three for the spring flushing schedule of the City of Pittsfield’s water system.   Water mains throughout the city will be flushed through hydrants over the next several weeks to remove accumulations of pipeline corrosion products.
