BRAINTREE, Mass. — The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced the award of nearly $7 million in federal grant funds to local governments and state agencies to enhance cybersecurity initiatives and reduce cyber risk for public agencies statewide. The Berkshire Regional Transit Authority received $5,025, the town of Cheshire $13,224, and Monterey had the highest amount at $45,425. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — County Ambulance Service received the American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline EMS Bronze achievement award for its commitment to offering rapid and research-based care to people experiencing the most severe form of heart attacks and strokes, ultimately saving lives. Emergency medical services staff can begin treatment when they arrive — up to an hour sooner than if someone goes to the hospital by car. EMS staff are also trained to provide resuscitation efforts to someone whose heart has stopped. People who arrive by ambulance may also receive faster treatment at the hospital.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Community Pharmacy at Berkshire Medical Center has achieved accreditation by Accreditation Commission for Health Care, citing the quality of its Specialty Pharmacy Services. Following a survey, ACHC noted that the pharmacy, located in the Warriner Building at BMC, "has demonstrated that it operates at a level of quality, integrity and effectiveness consistent with ACHC standards. It is an achievement of which your organization can be proud that marks your commitment to quality in the provision of care." The ACHC accreditation is effective for a three-year period.  DALTON, Mass. — Dalton Day on Saturday is being expanded this year to include a car show, more local food, Irish dance troupe, children's activities, a town mascot, and plenty of music. The festivities begin at 11 a.m. on the grounds of the Dalton Senior Center, located at 40 Field St Ext. After the inaugural event's success last year, the Dalton Cultural Council worked all year to expand the festivities. PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Berkshire County Arc raised $45,000 at its 29th annual Golf Classic held this summer at Berkshire Hills Country Club. The funds raised from the event go directly to individuals with disabilities for activities such as art classes, medical equipment, wheelchair swings, concerts, assistive technology, and dream trips to places like Disney, Celtics games, and deep-sea fishing. The money also goes to scholarships to area high school students planning to pursue human service careers. DALTON, Mass. — A plan to address the dilapidated condition of the house at 27 Mountain View Terrace is coming together, the homeowner says during Wednesday's Board of Health Meeting. Roberta Steele and her niece, Kathleen Winterstein, have been working to develop a plan to address the condition of the home since the last Board of Health meeting in June. Two weeks ago, Health Agent Agnes Witkowski received a photo from a neighbor of a dead rat on their property.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city is working to solve a more than 30-year-old drainage problem on Newell Street.
The Public Works and Utilities committee heard an update Monday on a project to address flooding at 9 Newell St. Water runoff reaching the drainage outlet behind the property is flooding it, unable to reach an intermittent stream meant to carry that runoff.
"This is the situation I inherited and I want to make sure that the residents and the families around that area can have this issue resolved. They've been told that it would have been done this year and it's a problem," Ward 3 Councilor Matthew Wrinn said.
