Scoil Rince Bréifne Ó Ruairc Participated in North American Open Championships

Scoil Rince Bréifne Ó Ruairc offers dance from preschool age to adult and performs through Berkshire County. It also hosts a traditional fiddling group.    PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Irish dance students at Scoil Rince Bréifne Ó Ruairc have found support in their peers.    The Irish American Club of Berkshire County opened the school in 2021, offering "high-quality traditional Irish dance" classes to children and adults in Pittsfield. Pittsfield Police Participating in US 20 Speed Enforcement Project

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Wednesday, March 20, 2024 the Pittsfield Police Dept will partner with other state, county, and local law enforcement agencies over 12 states for the "Highway 20 Speed Enforcement Project."   This project was started by the Iowa State Police in an attempt to promote traffic safety and reduce crashes across the 12 states that US 20 runs through.   US 20 is the longest highway in the country spanning approximately 3300 miles from Oregon to Massachusetts. 153 of those miles are in Massachusetts and 8 are in Pittsfield via West Housatonic St and South St.   Pittsfield Police will be participating in this project and will have additional

MassDOT Project Will Affect Traffic Near BMC

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Prepare for traffic impacts around Berkshire Medical Center through May for a state Department of Transportation project to improve situations and intersections on North Street and First Street.

Because of this, traffic will be reduced to one lane of travel on First Street (U.S. Route 7) and North Street between Burbank Street and Abbott Street from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday through at least May 6.

BMC and Medical Arts Complex parking areas remain open and detours may be in place at certain times. The city will provide additional updates on changes to traffic patterns in the area as construction progresses.

Dalton ADA Committee Explores Expanding

DALTON, Mass. — The Americans with Disabilities Act will soon be a full committee.    The five-seat committee currently has four active members but received comments of interest from two residents.    The committee voted to appoint John Curro to the committee. The appointment will be added to a future Select Board agenda, ADA coordinator Alyssa Maschino said.    Curro had already completed the committee interest form, while the resident who expressed interest had yet to do so by the time of the meeting.    Curro has dealt with accessible buildings and walkways while working for Pittsfield housing for 36 years. Pittsfield Community Meeting On Rest of the River Project

Conte/Crosby SOI Greenlit by School Building Needs, School Committee

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The School Building Needs Commission and the School Committee authorized the superintendent to submit a statement of interest for a combined elementary build on the site of Crosby Elementary School.

Now the SOI needs support from the City Council, which will be decided later this month ahead of the April 12 deadline.

The proposal rebuilds Conte Community School and Crosby on the West Street site with shared facilities, as both have outdated facilities, insufficient layouts, and need significant repair. A rough timeline shows a feasibility study in 2026 with design and construction ranging from 2027 to 2029.

Dalton Traffic Commission Approves Special Permit for Nicholas Sand and Gravel

DALTON, Mass. — The Traffic Commission approved the renewal of Nichols Sand and Gravel's special permit for earth removal.    The company, located at 190 Cleveland Road, operates a gravel pit there.    The hours of operation will remain 7 to 4 p.m. The commission approved owner Paul Nichols' request to allow his trucks to depart the property in either direction.    Nichols has to apply for renewal of the special permit every year.    The previous permit required the truck to exit the property to the right. No Drought Conditions in Berkshire County
