Nonprofit Raising Awareness of Rare Cannibis-Related Condition

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Stephanie Rose CHS Foundation is raising awareness of a rarely known condition.   Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome is an often misdiagnosed condition in someone who may use cannabis consistently over a long period of time. According to the Cleveland Clinic, up to 33 percent of frequent cannabis users seeking emergency room care displayed its symptoms of nausea, intense abdominal pain and vomiting. This can cause dehydration, loss of appetite, electrolyte imbalance and kidney failure.   Cannabis is often used to reduce pain and nausea and promote the appetite, especially with those undergoing chemotherapy. BIC Announces 2025 TEDx Berkshires Speakers

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Innovation Center (BIC) will host TEDx Berkshires on Oct. 9 at the BIC. 

TEDx Berkshires is a local, independently organized event that brings the TED experience to the Berkshires by presenting ideas from "thought leaders."  This year’s event will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 pm, with a reception to follow.

Great Spots to Catch a Fish in Berkshire County

Windsor Lake in North Adams is regularly stocked with trout. 

Summer may be winding down, but there is still plenty of time and great weather to catch some fish.

Most major lakes, ponds, and rivers, including the Housatonic, are open to fishing year-round with catch limits; smaller rivers and brooks have catch limits of three after Sept. 11 and eight after April 1. Find a list of fishing seasons and limits here. 

Berkshire County has scenic places to sail this fall as well as stand on the edge and cast out.

Pittsfield Council Approves Two New Fiber Internet Providers

Gateway Fiber's Senior Vice President Sarah Lang says the company uses existing infrastructure to run its network. 

PITTSFIELD, Mass.— The City Council has OK'd fiber-optic networks for Gateway Fiber and Archtop Fiber, bringing more options to the city for internet. 

On Tuesday, councilors approved Gateway Fiber's request to deploy an aerial network in Pittsfield and Archtop Fiber's plans to install infrastructure in the city right-of-way. 

Gateway Fiber held a ribbon-cutting at the Colonial Theatre in July to mark the start of construction in Pittsfield. The fiber-optic network will offer subscription plans ranging from $65 to $150 per month,

Pittsfield Sewer Lining Replacement Projects

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City's Department of Public Services and Utilities announce a sewer lining replacement project will begin on Monday, Sept. 29.    This work will include lining aging sewer pipes to help prevent future breaks within the sewer line.   The sewer lining will be replaced in several locations as outlined in the schedule below during the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each weekday.    There should be minimal to no impact on residential sewer lines during this work. Dalton Police Station Conditions Continue to Worsen

DALTON, Mass. —  As work continues on the proposed public safety facility; the condition of the current station worsens.   Officers are getting sick, the station is receiving violations from state agencies, and there is the possibility of needing to vacate the station, in the basement of Town Hall, if radon testing comes back positive, Police Chief Deanna Strout said.    "Everybody's trying to figure out what we're going to do about it. Lanesborough Fills Assistant Vacancy With Part-Timers

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The town plans to fill its vacant administrative assistant position with two interim, part-time employees. 

On Thursday, the Select Board voted to offer the jobs to Lanesborough resident Stacy Nash and the previous administrative assistant, Beth Carroll.

Corrine Bradley is on administrative leave following charges for allegedly embezzling more than $325,000 from a New York business.

MassDOT: Overnight and Daytime Construction on I-90

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass.  — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing it will be performing overnight drainage work and daytime bridge and guardrail repair work on I-90 eastbound and westbound in the towns of West Stockbridge, Becket, Otis, Blandford, Montgomery, and Russell.
