Governor Healey Nominates Two to Appeals Court

BOSTON — Governor Maura Healey nominated Hon. Gloria Tan and Chauncey Wood to serve as Associate Justices to the Massachusetts Appeals Court.

The nominees will now continue forward to the Governor's Council for confirmation.  

"I'm proud to be nominating two more highly qualified attorneys to the Appeals Court today," said Governor Maura Healey. "Judge Tan and Attorney Wood both have decades of legal experience that makes them uniquely qualified to serve on this bench, and we look forward to their continued service to the people of Massachusetts."

BNRC Celebrates Accessibility Renovations at Old Mill Trail

The final phase in the 2 1/2-year project to make nearly half the trail accessible was recently completed with the renovation of the parking lot. See more photos here. Markets vacillate between betting on a GOP sweep and a Democrat victory with little justification for either outcome. Don't get caught up in the frenzy.   The betting markets have Trump winning but they have been wrong in the past and it is easy to tip the odds one way or the other with a couple of big bets. Berkshire Athenaeum Annual HalloTEEN Event

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Teens 12 to 18 can join the Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield's Public Library, for games, and a costume contest.   HalloTEEN will occur Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, 3 to 5 p.m. in the Berkshire Athenaeum Auditorium. Participants will enjoy slime making, pumpkin painting, cornhole, making monster pops, video games, solving a mystery, and a photo booth station. BRTA Announces Free Rides Extension

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Governor Maura Healey announced that Berkshire Regional Transit Authority (BRTA) will receive $699,733 for fare free service from Jan 1, 2025 through Sept. 30, 2025.    The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced $30 million in grants to 13 Regional Transit Authorities (RTAs) in Massachusetts to provide year-round, fare free public transportation services. The funding was provided in the Fiscal Year 2025 budget signed by Governor Maura Healey in July and builds off of two years of successful pilot programs.   Customers riding the fixed route bus and/or the complementary ADA paratransit service will be fare free from Jan. through Sept. 2025. Pittsfield Council, School Committee Want Better Communication

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council and School Committee would like next year's budget process to go better than the last.

Both bodies met jointly on Monday at Reid Middle School with the intent to bridge the disconnect between school staff, the administration, and public officials during the budget process.

"It's important that the people in the school department understand how the budget works," Councilor at Large Earl Persip III said.

Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum Recount Successful Year

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — It is National Friends of Libraries Week and the Berkshire Athenaeum's group has a lot to be proud of.

The Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum Executive Committee gathered in the auditorium on Monday for its annual meeting. Since 1938, generations of Friends have worked to enhance the community's library experience through programs and events.

The volunteer organization has about 500 members and coinciding with the appreciation week, memberships will be half-price on Oct. 25. Annual rates run $10 for an individual to $25 for a family with higher ticket options for patrons, benefactors, and lifetime members.
