Nursing Scholarships Provide Free Tuition at BCC

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Nursing students planning to enroll at Berkshire Community College (BCC) may now receive free tuition, thanks to a grant from the Commonwealth.    The Community College Nursing Scholarship program is designed for students who intend to enroll in and complete a credential or degree in nursing.    The program provides "last dollar" financial assistance to ensure that all eligible students have adequate resources to fully cover the direct costs of tuition and fees towards a certificate or associate degree at a public community college. Dalton's Orchard Road Expected to be Repaved this Summer

DALTON, Mass. — After approximately six years of planning and navigating funding options, the reconstruction of Orchard Road is approaching.    The town hopes to start construction by summer. The road, which is often used as a connector to Route 9, has had flooding for many years due to undersized drainage pipes, Highway Superintendent Edward "Bud" Hall said.    “This is one of the worst roads in town and also one of the most heavily used. Kiwanis Club Unveils 2023 Park of Honor

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — An army of American flags sway in the wind on Park Square as a part of the Kiwanis Club of Pittsfield's annual fundraiser.

The Park of Honor had its opening ceremony on Saturday. More than 100 flags were sold, totaling over $2,500 raised for scholarships that support children and grandchildren of veterans.

"This is just an amazing opportunity for all of us to recognize our veterans, past and present," President Curtis Janey said.

He pointed out that there are veterans serving everywhere whether they are first responders, bankers, lawyers,

PHS Proteus Theatre, Shakespeare & Company Present 'As You Like it'

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield High School's Proteus Theatre and Shakespeare and Company presents "As You Like It" as part of the 35th Annual Fall Festival of Shakespeare.   Performances will be held on Nov. 9 and Nov. 10 both at 7:30 pm. There will be another showing on Nov. 11 at 2:30 pm. The performance will be at the Pittsfield High School Proteus Theatre at 300 East St.   Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students (K-12). Tickets may be purchased here or at the door. Only cash or checks will be accepted at the door.

Drury's McGrath Leads Springfield College Offense

Drury High graduate Kayla McGrath has a team-high eight goals for the Springfield College women's soccer team this fall.   Last week, she scored both Pride goals in a 2-0 win over Wellesley.   McGrath's two game-winning goals this season is currently seventh in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.   She has played 29 games and has 10 starts over the last two seasons for Springfield, which was 8-4-5 overall (6-2-3 in the NEWMAC) in the regular season and opens the conference tournament on Tuesday against Smith.   Westfield State senior Michaella Moncecchi (Wahconah) has appeared in three games with one start in goal for the Owls, stopping

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Three of the candidates in two wards showed up for a set of debates on Monday night at Berkshire Community College.

The debates, the first two that night, were hosted by Pittsfield Community Television in collaboration with iBerkshires.com. Bob Heck of PCTV was the moderator for both debates.

The Ward 2 debate started off rocky when candidate Alexander Blumin was late. Candidate Brittany Bandani had the first minutes to herself before Blumin arrived to take his seat.

Community Friendsgiving at the Common Room

On Wednesday, Nov. 8 from 5:30-7:30 there will be a Community Friendsgiving in the Common Room.    Attendees will be assigned a seat at a table, where a host will help guide the conversation and help people get to know, listen to, and appreciate each other, all around a theme of gratitude.   The menu is lasagna, salad, bread, and dessert. Ex-Employee Files Harassment Suit Against Pittsfield Co-Op, Marchetti

Pittsfield District Improvement Plan Focused on Literacy

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The district's 2023-2024 improvement plan is focused on instruction with a goal of widespread literacy and reading comprehension.   "We all agreed that literacy had to be our focus," Superintendent Joseph Curtis said.   "That students not only being able to read fluently but to be able to comprehend and write about their understanding of the text that they read is an incredibly important not only skill that we want our students to have in school but incredibly essential set of skills for life."   On Wednesday, the School Committee accepted the plan.   By the end of the school year, the goal is to have at least 70 percent
