Dalton Committee Rejuvenating the Pines Trailhead

Governor Awards Sustainable Materials Recovery Program Grants

BOSTON – The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced nearly $5.2 million in grant funding to 283 municipalities and regional solid waste districts across Massachusetts.

The grants, made available by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) through the Sustainable Materials Recovery Program (SMRP), will help communities bolster their recycling, composting, and waste reduction programs. The full list of awards is available here.

Pittsfield ConCom Makes Suggestions for State ADA Ramp Project

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Conservation Commission has requested some riverfront improvements as a part of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation's ADA improvements to curb ramps.

On Thursday, the panel voted to require a notice of intent application due to one location's proximity to the riverfront.

MassDOT plans to retrofit ramps at Route 8/9 (Dalton Avenue) at Meadowview Drive, Route 20 (W Housatonic Street) at Betnr Industrial Drive, Route 20 (W Housatonic Street) at Gale Ave, and Route 20 (W Housatonic Street) at Osceola Street.

Mass Climate Report Outlines Approach to Address Climate Crisis

Ashley Scherben has been teaching at Morris Elementary for 12 years. LENOX, Mass. — Morris Elementary School fourth-grade teacher Ashley Scherben has been selected for the October Teacher of the Month.    The Teacher of the Month series runs for the next seven months in partnership with Berkshire Community College.   Scherben has been teaching for 15 years starting out as a substitute in the Pittsfield Public Schools.    She got a job teaching at Morris 12 years ago and since then she has not only had an impact her students but on the community that she serves.    Scherben said she is fortunate to be teaching at Morris because although it has

Governor Submits Application to Decarbonize Low-Income, Affordable Housing

Pittsfield Council Gives Baseball a Birthday

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Baseball now has a birthday in the city of Pittsfield.

On Tuesday, the City Council unanimously voted to recognize Sept. 5 as the official birthday of baseball.  The effort was led by Ward 5 Councilor Patrick Kavey and baseball enthusiast Phil Massery.

Kavey thanked Mayor Linda Tyer for supporting the effort.  She submitted a resolution for the council's approval at the meeting.

"We look forward to working with you over the next couple of months and the incoming mayor to really make the next fifth of September something something really awesome and something we can all be proud of with with our history of baseball," he said.

2023 Winter Parking Ban Announcements

Third-quarter Gross Domestic Product grew at an annualized pace of 4.9 percent blowing away economists' expectations of a 4.5 percent growth rate.   The resilient U.S. consumer continued to spend, which has boosted growth, defying those who have been expecting the economy to slow down under the weight of 18 months of interest rate hikes.
