Last month, a new term for those stocks that have led the stock market higher this year surfaced on Wall Street. Dalton Briefs: Bardin Property, Sidewalk & Town Hall Updates

DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board was given updates on a variety of projects and bids during its meeting on Monday night including, the Bardin Property bid, sidewalk repairs, and Town Hall renovations.    Bardin Property Update    The town has received its first bid for the Bardin Property from Charlotte Crane, Town Manager Tom Hutcheson said.    Crane bid $150,000 and meets all the requirements of the request for proposals.    Hutcheson said he is planning on declaring her the winning bid pending a final review from town counsel.    Town counsel will notify the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources in accordance with the

Pittsfield Announces Summer Outdoor Movies

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City of Pittsfield's Department of Community Development Recreation Program announces this beginning of its "Summer Outdoor Movie Series" at Clapp Park.   The series begins Friday night, July 7 and will continue each Friday night this until July 28; rain cancels the movie.    The movies will begin shortly after dusk (about 8:30pm).   This year's lineup again features family-friendly movies.  July 7 - "Trolls" July 14 -  "Frozen II" July 21 -  "Lightyear" July 28 - "Moana" For the complete line up please visit the Recreation Program page under the Department of

Junior Rangers Program at Mount Greylock

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Mount Greylock State Reservation announced the Junior Ranger program for children ages 8-12.

The program is free and is held at Mount Greylock State Reservation, Pittsfield State Forest, Clarksburg State Park, Natural Bridge State Park, Savoy Mountain State Forest, and Mohawk Trail State Forest, on specific Thursdays in July and August from 10:00am to noon. 

Space is limited to fifteen participants. All participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  

Work toward earning a Junior Ranger Patch and Certificate by attending programs and completing the activities in the Junior Ranger Activity Guide. Each week,

Canadian Wildfires Cause Air Quality Advisory in Berkshire County

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Due to smoke from Canadian wildfires that continue to influence the area, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has posted an air quality alert effective until 11:59 p.m. on June 30, 2023, in five counties in western and central Massachusetts.    Smoke is expected to impact air quality tomorrow in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, and Worcester counties. Air quality is expected to be unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include people with heart or lung disease, such as asthma, older adults, children, teenagers, and people who are active outdoors. Pittsfield School Administrators Tasked With Cell Phone Intervention Plan

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — While the district has a straightforward cell phone policy, it has never had a set of uniform practices throughout the schools. The School Committee would like to change that.

On Wednesday the committee requested that Superintendent Joseph Curtis review the existing policy and bring it back in August with added regulations.

Chair William Cameron, who motioned for the request, said he is not looking to change the rule because it is clear. In Pittsfield Public Schools, devices are to be turned off and not used during the instructional day or a school-sponsored activity or program.

Pittsfield Fourth of July Parade Names Wynn as Grand Marshal

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Fourth of July Parade is just days away from marching down North Street in front of thousands of paradegoers from around the region.    The Pittsfield Parade Committee has selected retiring Police Chief Michael Wynn as this year's grand marshal.    Every year, the independent committee tries to bring new things to the event, Chairman Peter Marchetti said.    It made a concerted effort this year to work with other organizations like Downtown Pittsfield Inc. to expand the Independence Day activities throughout the Fourth of July week.    From June 30 until July 9, residents can celebrate Independence Day with events

Museum Set to Open in Lee, Seeks Volunteers

Lanesborough Re-Hires Designer for Police/EMS Proposal

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The town has entered into another designer agreement with Jacunski Humes Architects LLC for a second go at a public safety building proposal.

On Monday, the Select Board approved a $16,000 contract with the firm that began on June 22. This includes $10,000 for architectural services and $6,000 for a new cost estimate and budget worksheet.

Select Board members Timothy Sorrell and Michael Murphy passed the item without discussion. Chair John Goerlach was absent.

Kronick's Charter Objections Cause Unrest in Pittsfield Council Chambers

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Ward 2 Councilor Charles Kronick's charter objections once again caused unrest in Council Chambers.

On Tuesday, Kronick made charter objection motions against waiving a Finance Committee review for three time-sensitive orders: to transfer and appropriate $620,000 from free cash to the Department of Public Services for snow and ice removal, to transfer $75,000 from retained sewer earnings to the Department of Public Utilities Wastewater Division for sludge handling, and to transfer and appropriate $850,000 from free cash to the Police Department for scheduled overtime.
