LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Voters returned both incumbents in the only two races on the town election ballot on Tuesday. Michael Murphy was elected to a second term on the Select Board with 172 votes; Barbara Davis-Hassan polled 142 votes and Deborah Maynard 131. Murphy said earlier on Tuesday that he was feeling "cautiously optimistic" about the election though there were good candidates running against him. He has served on the Cable Committee, the Finance Committee, as well as other panels and organizations in the community. DALTON, Mass. — A change in signage seems to have quelled neighbors' ire over errant parking and excessive noise by Zinky's Pub patrons. Since pub owner Bill Zink purchased and installed six new "no parking" signs in the adjacent residential parking lot things have improved, Deborah Merry, who filed a complaint with the town, told the Select Board last week. The board had referred the complaint to town counsel to see if there were any legal violations that need to be addressed with the pub's liquor license.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — At Hotel on North on Friday, June 23 at noon, nine Crosby Educational Academy fifth- graders will celebrate their graduation with a poetry reading of original work and the unveiling of 60 poetry tree tags on North Street. "Writing poetry has been such an empowering experience for our students. It gives them confidence in their academics and lets them know, Yes, I am smart, yes I can do this," said Tracy Kelleher, Dean of Students of Crosby Academy. LENOX, Mass. -- Three Berkshire County Youth Soccer League teams have qualified for the Massachusettts Tournament of Champions this weekend in Lancaster. Two girls teams and one boys team are advancing to the state tourney based on their performance throughout the spring: the 7th- and 8th-grade Lenox Gold girls, the 5th- and 6th-grade North Adams Breakers girls and the 5th- and 6th-grade Williamstown Vipers boys. The BCYSL held its season-ending tournament on Saturday at Lenox Memorial Middle and High School, with championships decided in seven different groups. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation will begin repair on the Holmes Road bridge starting on June 23, 2023. During this work, the Holmes Road bridge, between 650 and 677 Holmes Road, will be closed. No thru traffic will be allowed. The city recommends that drivers seek alternate routes. Traffic traveling southbound on Holmes Road will be detoured towards Pomeroy Avenue, Crofut Street and then to Route 7/20. Traffic traveling northbound should utilize Route 7/20. DALTON, Mass. — After a long search and salary revision, the town has filled the vacant town planner position. The post has been vacant since last October and town meeting voted to increase its salary by 11.26 percent to $58,335 when it failed to attract candidates. The Select Board during its meeting last week approved the appointment of the new Janko Tomasic, who is expected to start on July 10. Tomasic has lived in Western Massachusetts for most of his life and earned his master's degree from the University of Massachusetts' Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning. Parks Commissioner Simon Muil thinks the park should retain its 'rough around the edges' appeal. PITTSFIELD, Mass.— When it comes to the redesign of Wahconah Park, residents would like to see the historic baseball facility's charm and hometown feel preserved.
