Berkshire Immigrant Center Benefit

LENOX, Mass. — The Berkshire Immigrant Center presents its fourth annual One World Celebration on Sunday, June 4, 2023.    The live event returns to Shakespeare & Company in Lenox. with a headline performance by the Wanda Houston Band.   Performers Jason Ennis and Natalia Bernal will open the event with songs for voice and guitar. BCC Practical Nurse Program Receives National Accreditation

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Practical Nurse (PN) program at Berkshire Community College (BCC) recently earned accreditation through the national Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), making it the only accredited Practical Nurse program in the Berkshires.     The ACEN is recognized as an accrediting body by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Pittsfield Cable Committee to Begin Gathering Input on Spectrum Contract

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The ascertainment process for the Spectrum contract renewal is soon to begin.

Last week, the Cable Advisory Committee reviewed a draft plan for gathering public input and advocating for residents' cable needs. Pittsfield's 10-year contract ends in September 2024 and it is recommended that the negotiations take place over 12 months.  

The hope is to meet with a school focus group June and a city government focus group in July.

Pittsfield Community Television will provide its capital plan by the end of July and the panel will request Spectrum's initial proposal in late June or early July. Once the initial proposal is reviewed, they can present

Berkshire Athenaeum Short Story Contest

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Athenaeum and the Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum announced the 45th Annual Short Story Writing Contest for Children and the 26th Annual Short Story Writing Contest for Young Adults.    The contest opens Thursday, June 1, 2023, and closes Friday, Aug. 4, 2023.   In anticipation of the contest, on July 11 & July 25, Young Adult author Brittany Czarnecki will be hosting a creative writing workshop for teens 12-18.   The Berkshire Athenaeum will accept submissions in-person, via mail, or by email. Municipal Electricity Aggregation in Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield reminds residents and business owners that they are eligible to sign up for a lower rate of electricity by joining the city's Municipal Aggregation Program.   Since the launch of this program in 2018 by Mayor Tyer's administration, residents have collectively saved approximately $8,390,000 and businesses have saved approximately $5,076,000 for a total savings of $13,466,000.   Dynegy Energy Services is the supplier of electricity as part of the Community Power Supply Program and offer a fixed rate of $.09603 per kWh for basic service. Dalton Expects July Delivery of Ladder Truck

DALTON, Mass. — The Fire District is projected to have its new ladder truck delivered in five weeks, the interim Fire Chief Chris Cachat said during the Fire District meeting on Tuesday night.    As of last week, the truck was in the paint shop, Cachat said.    The ladder truck has been completely refurbished from the ground up. Pittsfield to Create Cultural Plan with National Endowment for the Arts Grant
