Lanesborough Village Fire/Water Receives $1M State Boost

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The Fire and Water District received a $1 million boost from the state for a new drinking water well on Bull Hill Road.

While the project is expected to cost as much as $8 million, this will allow planners to gather enough information to make an informed decision about moving forward with additional permitting, design, and construction, legal consultant Mark Siegars told iBerkshires in an email.

New Springside Pond on the Horizon

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The long-awaited rehabilitation of Springside Pond has begun and is expected to wrap up in the fall.

Construction vehicles and piles of materials can be seen on the southern portion of the 237-acre park next to the pavilion. Plans include sediment removal, dam repair, and increased accessibility.

"Really since year 2000, the city has been thinking about the restoration of Springside Pond," Park, Open Space, and Natural Resource Program Manager James McGrath told the Parks Commission last year.

Berkshire Force 12-Year-Olds' Run Ends at World Series

FLORENCE, Ala. -- The Berkshire Force 12-and-under travel softball team ended its run at the Babe Ruth World Series the way it began: with a game against Davidson, N.C.   Unfortunately for the Force, the second meeting went the other way as Davidson earned a 12-6 win on Tuesday to elimninate the Force in the tournament's consolation "Diamond Bracket."   Davidson scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning to break open a tie game after the Force battled back from an early 5-0 deficit to tie the game twice.   Berkshire scored four runs in the bottom of the third to get within a run and tied it when Kaylana Altman singled and scored in the fourth to make it

Berkshire Public Water Suppliers Awarded Grants

BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced more than $17.4 million in grant awards to 21 public water suppliers to assist with long-term solutions that address and mitigate emerging contaminants in drinking water.    The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) selected 21 projects to help remove PFAS and manganese.   Berkshire County Awardees:   Housatonic Water Works Company – $350,000  The Housatonic Water Works Company in Great Barrington plans to construct a new treatment facility to remove manganese from the drinking water source at Long Pond. Berkshire Nursing Families Awarded Perinatal Health Grant

School Officials Looking to Tame Wahconah High 'Jungle'

Pittsfield Proposes a Deputy Public Works Commissioner

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city is looking to add another leadership position to the public works department.

The Personnel Review Board on Monday supported the creation of a deputy commissioner in the Department of Public Services and Utilities. The full-time position, if approved by the City Council, will have a Grade M-8 pay scale with a yearly salary ranging from $89,247 to $116,021.

This position would assist Commissioner of Public Services and Utilities Ricardo Morales.

Berkshire Force Drops into Consolation Bracket at World Series

FLORENCE, Ala. -- The Kinston, N.C., 12-and-under softball team Monday scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to finish off a 15-5, four-inning win over the Berkshire Force in the quarter-finals of the Babe Ruth World Series.   Kinston moves on to Tuesday evening's semi-final round at the Florence SportsPlex.   The Force, which fell to 3-3 in the tournament, moves into the World Series' Diamond Bracket. Inaugural Lanesborough Day Set Saturday

Healey Signs $58B State Budget

BOSTON — The state has a $57.78 billion plan for fiscal 2025 that includes more than $1.3 billion in Fair Share monies for education and transportation.    Gov. 71 Years Later, Pittsfield Remembers the 'Forgotten' Korean War

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — VFW Post 448 Cmdr. Arnie Perras led the 71st Korean War memorial ceremony Saturday morning. 

He is the only living member of the committee that led the effort on Pittsfield's 2002 monument remembering those lost in the "Forgotten War."
