BHS's Berkshire Medical Center Earns an 'A' Hospital Safety Grade

PITTSFIELD, Mass.— Berkshire Medical Center, the community teaching hospital of Berkshire Health Systems, has earned an "A" Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety.

Leapfrog assigns an "A," "B," "C," "D" or "F" grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.??

Berkshire Concrete Abuttors Want More Action Unauthorized Dig Site

DALTON, Mass. — Residents impacted by Petricca Industries' unauthorized dig site say, "it's time to stop reacting and start acting."   For the last seven months, several dozen residents have been going to numerous meetings in town urging action to stop sand from leaving parcel No. 105-16, owned by Berkshire Concrete, a subsidiary of Petricca Industries.   The residents organized a Clean Air Coalition to provide updates on what they described as slow progress towards a resolution.    Although coalition members thanked the town for the work it has done to aid them, they also expressed their frustration with the lack of action taken.    On

Governor Announces New Leadership of the Judicial Nominating Commission

BOSTON — Governor Maura Healey announced that she is appointing Kathy Henry to Chair of the Judicial Nominating Commission and Asha Santos and Mark Shaughnessy as Vice Chairs.

Abim Thomas, the current Chair, and Mark Fleming, one of the two current Vice Chairs, are stepping down from the Commission after serving two terms. Kathy Henry will take on this new leadership position as Chair having served two terms as a Vice Chair.

Downtown Pittsfield Announces Free Summer Dance Series

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. has announced "Rhythmscape," a free outdoor summer dance series. The events will take place on Dunham Mal  on select Sunday afternoons from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, beginning June 1 and concluding Aug. 31.

Each "Rhythmscape" session will feature a different rhythm and instructor from the local community, reflecting the diverse identities within Pittsfield. The series aims to activate public spaces in Downtown Pittsfield through inclusive dance and music events that celebrate community, movement, and cultural diversity. No prior dance experience is required to participate.

Market 32, Price Chopper, Freihofer's Partner in Support of Alzheimer's Association

West Stockbridge, Becket Construction Operations on I-90 Eastbound and Westbound

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing it will be performing drainage structure work and bridge painting along I-90 eastbound and westbound in West Stockbridge and Becket.

The work will take place nightly from Monday, June 2, through Friday, June 6, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. the following morning.

Wahconah Names Valedictorian and Salutatorian for 2025

DALTON, Mass. — Logan D. Kunde and Thomas A. Celentano have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the 2025 graduating class at Wahconah Regional High School.    Both students will speak at graduation ceremonies on Sunday, June 1, at 1 p.m. in the school gymnasium.   Kunde is the son of Jeremiah and Amanda Kunde, both of Dalton. While at Wahconah, Logan's academic program included Honors and Advanced Placement coursework. Equities remained on hold this week but managed to produce gains for the month. Tariff news dominated the tape, while the quarterly earnings results supported the market overall. In response to the letter from Dalton Finance chair, Mr. William Drosehn, published on May 28, 2025, he misleads the public once again.

In the letter published May 28, 2025, Mr. Drosehn, chair of the Dalton Finance Committee, shares that the Finance Committee did not "target the Police Department." Simply watch the video of the Finance Committee on March 26, 2025. At the 2:01:50 mark, the motion for the vote is read to support the budget, it was quickly rejected 1-4 vote with many of the Finance Committee members not present. Watch the body language and the surprise on the vice chair's face, who then resigned the next day.
