Pittsfield to Conduct Hydrant Flow Testing Starting June 310:54AM / Friday, May 30, 2025 | | PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City of Pittsfield's Department of Public Utilities will begin hydrant flow testing on Tuesday, June 3. The testing will occur throughout the city over several weeks to assess flow rates and pressure. Testing will take place between 7:30 AM and 3:00 PM on scheduled dates. BCC Offers Swim Clinic for Area High School Students08:00AM / Friday, May 30, 2025 | | PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC) will hold a swim clinic for high school students on Saturday, June 28 at 9:30 am at Paterson Field House, located on BCC's main campus at 1350 West Street, Pittsfield. The clinic is open to all high school–aged swimmers entering ninth through 12th grades in the 2025-26 school year. The fee is $45 ($30 for Paterson Field House gym members). The clinic is limited to 30 swimmers, and registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. BCC to Offer Two Summer EMT Training Courses07:44AM / Thursday, May 29, 2025 | | PITTSFIELD, MA — Berkshire Community College (BCC), in conjunction with Action Ambulance and County Ambulance, will offer two EMT training courses this summer. The Action Ambulance course will be held June 2 – Sept. 6 on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. and every other Saturday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The County Ambulance course will be held June 16 – Aug. 23 on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. and every Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Seating is limited, and 100 percent attendance is required.  To the Editor: I have immense respect for the work performed by our Police Department. It is certainly a great comfort for the town's people that they can feel safe. However, reviewing the police budget was still necessary and appropriate to assure the townspeople that the department's budget was the best it could be. The Finance Committee did not target the police budget; instead, all departments underwent the same objective process. The misinformation presented by the Police Department at the May 19 Select Board meeting was very unfortunate. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city's capital improvement plan for the upcoming fiscal year services the roads and sidewalks, school buildings, and more. On Wednesday, the City Council preliminarily approved the five-year capital improvement plan, running from FY26 to FY30, with no discussion. Forty-five percent of $65 million in FY26 expenditures are going to school maintenance, such as boiler replacements, roof repairs, and HVAC system upgrades. Twenty-two percent will go to road improvements, and 18 percent to stormwater and culvert improvements.
