 LENOX, Mass. — Decrepit buildings, deteriorating roads, swelling budgets, few staff and dwindling resources. These and other issues challenging rural communities were brought to the fore as local officials tried catch the ears of legislators and strategize ways to advocate for their needs on Beacon Hill. On Friday morning, more than a dozen administrators, selectmen and councilors had gathered at the GAR Memorial Hall in Adams to provide input to Massachusetts Municipal Association representatives on legislative actions.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire County girls basketball family Saturday recognized some great Berkshire County girls basketball families. The 10th class of the county girls basketball Hall of Fame included not one but two parent-child combinations among the nine inductees. "My family is famous today," Brett Steinman quipped. Steinman presented both his wife, 1987 St. Joseph Central High School alumna Shannon Blake Steinman, and their daughter, 2017 Pittsfield High grad Peyton Steinman.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Around 100 people stood at Park Square on Saturday morning to honor the 27 Berkshire County residents who were killed in action in Vietnam.
The annual ceremony recognizes National Vietnam War Veterans Day, which is on March 29, and is sponsored by the James E. Callahan Berkshire Chapter 65 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, American Legion Post 68, and VFW Post 448.
Emcee John Harding, who is a Marine Corps veteran, thanked the attendees for showing up on the frigid day that saw snow flurries.
"We were worried about it anybody would show up but you showed your true colors when you support us Vietnam vets," he said.

DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board approved the Green Committee's request for a budget so it can help address some educational and technical issues. Chair Joseph Diver asked whether this should fall under the town manager's budget since there isn't a budget number and he oversees the committee. A budget number will be created. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The state has closed a second Berkshire County bridge because of structural issues. The 20-foot span on Bridge Street was ordered closed by the Department of Transportation at 9 a.m. on Friday, based on an inspection conducted Thursday that identified further structural issues and holes. On Tuesday, the state ordered the Brown Street bridge in North Adams closed because of structural deficiencies. The steel girder bridge over Town Brook was built in 1945 and had most recently a deck rating of 3 and a superstructure rating of 5 and 6. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The school district received a final boost from the Pittsfield Education Foundation before it dissolves — and it was a big one.
On Wednesday, the School Committee accepted a $17,500 donation from the foundation to support a districtwide, four-day professional development institute this summer. Nationally renowned educational leader Douglas Fisher is expected to come and work with faculty members.
This is PEF's remaining balance, as it is discontinuing operations in the spring after the board of directors determined that it was redundant to the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation's Pittsfield Education Enrichment Fund.
