DALTON, Mass. — The Public Safety Advisory Committee is split on how to proceed in obtaining grant funding. During a meeting in November, some members suggested forming a subcommittee to work with the grant writer in identifying and pursuing grant funding sources. However, other members expressed concerns that this may be premature before a feasibility study is complete.  DALTON, Mass. — During the special meeting on Tuesday, Fire District voters approved borrowing up to $350,000 for the purchase of a new ambulance and any related costs. Approximately 27 voters attended the meeting at the Stationary Factory, which lasted less than 10 minutes. The only article on the warrant overwhelmingly passed with only one voter against it. The no vote came from Tom Betit, who expressed his concern regarding the financial decisions and actions taken by the Fire District.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Tavern at The A is again looking for a new operator with a hopeful opening in the spring. First, it must be able to transfer the liquor license.
On the agenda for last week's Licensing Board meeting was a conversation with Steve Cobb, president of the General Electric Athletic Golf Course board of directors. The Crane Avenue restaurant is on the golf course's property.

DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board voted to maintain a single tax rate, as it has done historically, during its meeting on Monday night. This means all types of properties within the town, whether residential, commercial, or industrial, will be taxed at the same rate. The town's tax rate for fiscal year 2025 is projected to be $16.47 per $1,000 property value, which is a decrease of 54 cents from last year's rate of $17.01. The average tax bill for a single-family residence in Dalton would be about $5,561.06 for an average value of $337,648. Housing Secretary Ed Augustus says supportive services are critical to moving people into permanent housing. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Those experiencing homelessness often need more than four walls and a roof.
On Tuesday, Hearthway Inc. hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking for 37 new units of supportive housing, 28 on vacant land on West Housatonic Street and nine at Zion Lutheran Church on First Street.
"Today is a good day. It's a day we celebrate our community's commitment and responsibility to our neighbors, especially those who are unhoused, living in shelter, or outside," President and CEO Eileen Peltier said.
