Lanesborough to Mall Owners: Pay Your Taxes

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The Select Board would like to see movement on the Berkshire Mall — markedly the payment of taxes.  

Earlier this month, the Lanesborough Fire and Water District filed a suit for more than $105,000 in back taxes and interest. JMJ Holdings, which purchased the mall last year, owes about $211,000 to the town.

The owners say they are plagued by the costs of stabilizing a rundown property that should not have gotten to its current state and cite "inhibitive" taxation from the Baker Hill Road District.

Dalton Green Committee Selects Climate Action Logo

DALTON, Mass. — The Green Committee voted to select Ashlyn Roch's submission for its Climate Action Plan logo during its November meeting.   The town's CAP consultant Blue Strike, will have its graphic designer covert the drawing into a usable logo for the town.    The committee is developing a climate action plan with Blue Strike to achieve net-zero by 2050 by seeking strategies to decrease the town's dependence on fossil fuels for homes, businesses, municipal facilities, and vehicles.    It received 24 logo submissions from Wahconah Regional High School students.    "The response was phenomenal," committee member Laurie

Governor Healey Nominates Three New Judges

Pittsfield Council Requests Geographical Diversity in Appeals Court Justices

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council would like to see geographical diversity in the Massachusetts Appeals Court system.

On Tuesday, a petition requesting at least two associate justices are from Western Mass — specifically Berkshire County — was presented to council. Ward 1 Councilor Kenneth Warren and Ward 2 Councilor Brittany Noto originally proposed one but the petition was amended to request two local representatives.

"It is not a normal petition but it's just about supporting regional diversity on our Appeals Court," Noto said.

Lafayette Trail Marker Unveiled at CRA

DALTON, Mass. — In 1825, the Marquis de Lafayette made his way across the state of Massachusetts, passing through the Berkshires as he completed a tour of the young country.   Several towns have markers noting his historic passage and Dalton is now included.    On Veterans Day, local officials, Historical Commission members, and others gathered in front of the Community Recreation Association for the unveiling of the marker.    The sign highlights how, on June 13, 1825, Lafayette was welcomed into Dalton at Nelson's coffee house while passing from Pittsfield to Boston.   "The sign highlights the rich history and significance of the trail,

ABCC Kicks Off 'Operation Safe Holidays'

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — 'Tis the season! The city will light its permanent Christmas tree for the second time in early December.

The Parks Commission last week approved the annual tree lighting ceremony on Friday, Dec. 6, beginning at 6 p.m. It will include warm beverages, pictures with the Grinch, and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

MassRMV Urges residents to Plan Ahead for REAL ID Compliance

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is reminding residents that beginning May 7, 2025, anyone traveling by plane domestically or entering certain federal facilities will need a Registry-issued REAL ID-compliant driver's license or ID, or a valid passport.

The Registry is strongly encouraging everyone seeking a REAL ID-compliant license or identification card to go online now at Mass.Gov/REALID to learn what documents are needed for a required in-person appointment.
