HINSDALE, Mass. — According to the American Diabetes Association, two Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every minute. At Kittredge Elementary School, two youngsters are fighting back. Fourth-grader Nelson Pelkey and his cousin, fifth-grader Emily Ham, each have Type 1 diabetes, a condition formerly known as juvenile diabetes.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Eagles Community Band's annual community concert has a little something for everyone, incorporating pieces from different cultures and periods.
The annual event at The Colonial Theatre has been a staple for the band since the early 2000s. This year, it will be held on Friday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m.
Associate Conductor David Diggs explained that he wanted to put together a varied program of different wind music styles, including songs such as "The Seven Seas" by Eric Coates, "Summon the Heroes" by John Williams, and a Spanish pasodoble march.
The oldest piece on the setlist was written in 1844 and the newest in 2015.

WINDSOR, Mass. — A Windsor man has been charged with murder in the death of his sister on Thursday. Paul Menard, 65, was arraigned Friday in Central Berkshire District Court on one count of murder in the first degree. He was held without the right to bail, without prejudice. Menard walked into the State Police Barracks in Cheshire at about 1:45 p.m. on Thursday and told police he shot and killed his sister at his Crane Road home, according to a statement from the Berkshire District Attorney's Office.  DALTON, Mass. — The Fire District is considering accelerating its timeline for purchasing a new ambulance because of an unexpected opportunity. The ambulance committee has been speaking with ambulance purveyors who informed them that the projected cost of an ambulance is about $450,000 to $500,000 with a build time of three years, interim Fire Chief Chris Cachat said during last month's Board of Water Commissioners meeting. The panel supported a second two-year extension of a tax increment financing agreement with Somnath LLC, initially approved in 2021.
