State Officials Celebrate Agriculture Day at the State House

BOSTON — Governor Maura Healey declared April 12, 2023, as Massachusetts Agriculture Day. 

To celebrate the occasion, state officials, legislators, farmers, and students gathered at the State House as part of a collaborative effort between the Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation, agricultural commodity groups, Buy Local groups, and the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR). Pittsfield Rotary Auction Raises Over $100k

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — With donations continuing to come in to support their newly established endowment for the Jeffrey Whitehouse / Paul Harris Scholarships, the Pittsfield Rotary Club announces that proceeds of their April 1, 2023 Auction at Berkshire Hills Country Club totaled over $100,000.   Over 200 supporters turned out to bid on the over $60,000 worth of goods and services donated to the auction. Those supporters bid in excess of $53,000, funds that will support the Rotary Club's good work in the community throughout the next year.    Turkey Angels and the many local food pantries are among the supported organizations by the club. Rachiele Hits for Cycle to Lead MCLA Past Westfield State

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.—Austin Rachiele went 4-for-4 hitting for the cycle in MCLA's 5-4 MASCAC victory over Westfield State this afternoon.    Taconic High graduate Rachiele (4-for-4, two RBIs) led off the bottom of the 1st with his 8th home run of the season to put MCLA (8-17, 2-8) up, 1-0, but Westfield State (10-15, 5-15) tied things up on a Nolan Florence sacrifice fly in the top of the second.   A Jayco Pena sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third drove in Rachiele, who had doubled and advance to third on a wild pitch. Mass Awarded $4 M in U.S. Department of Transportation SMART Grants

BOSTON – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced it has received $4 million total from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) Grant Program.     The money will support the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' Aeronautics and Rail and Transit Division's clean energy grid and climate-related initiatives.   In addition to the $4 million dollars in SMART grant funding for MassDOT, the federal government has awarded the City of Brockton and the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority (MWRTA) SMART grant funding for identified municipal energy and technology transportation

Governor Announces Action to Protect Access to Medication Abortion

BOSTON — Following a federal court ruling in Texas in the case of Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. U.S. Food & Drug Administration that blocked the FDA's approval of the abortion medication mifepristone, Massachusetts Governor Maura T. Pittsfield Sees Interest in All Wards, Two Certified Candidates

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city now has a potential candidate for Ward 2 and two with certified signatures.

Election papers became available on April 3 and there is now at least one interested candidate in all seven Wards. Incumbent Ward 5 Councilor Patrick Kavey's 50 signatures within the ward have been certified and City Clerk Michele Benjamin's 150 signatures to run for re-election have been certified.

Hot Dog Ranch owner Craig Benoit has taken out papers for a Ward 2 and an at-large seat.

Last month's inflation data came in the cooler. The dollar continued to decline, while stocks eked out some gains. Next up, first-quarter earnings results.   The money-center banks kicked off results on Friday. The first four banks to report — JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup, PNC, and Wells Fargo — were surprised by the upside. Next week, we will see how hard the beleaguered regional banks were impacted by the rush to move deposits to the bigger banks. BFAIR, Greylock Federal Credit Union Distributing Hundreds of Bike Helmets

Dalton EV Charging Stations Underway

DALTON, Mass. — The Dalton Green Committee voted to use ChargePoint for the electric vehicle (EV) charging stations during its meeting last week.    The town allocated $42,000 to fund the Green Committee's request for two electric vehicle charging stations. There are two EV ports per station.    The vendor who installs the stations and the Central Berkshire Regional Planning Commission did not recommend that the town use Flo, a Canadian company, committee member Tony Pagliarulo said.    Pagliarulo also said he reached out to Flo on two occasions and did not hear back.
