The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has officially lifted the Administrative Order (AO) 11- 007, issued to the city on Feb. 11, 2011. This action recognizes the city's successful efforts to meet stringent phosphorus limits in its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit and to enhance its Capacity, Management, Operation, and Maintenance (CMOM) program. Crane Museum Pauses Search for Permanent Location IndefinitelyBy Sabrina Damms, iBerkshires Staff 12:19PM / Friday, March 08, 2024 | | DALTON, Mass. — The Crane Museum of Papermaking has indefinitely paused its search for a permanent location and shifted its focus to a pop-up museum model. The nonprofit organization searched for a location for two years but was unable to find one it liked. However, a successful pop-up museum last summer at Arrowhead got its leaders rethinking its operations. It is currently unclear if it will reignite the search in the future, but at the moment, the museum's Director Jenna Ware is focusing on the summer season, educational programming, community events, and collaborating with other organizations in the area. Daniel Pearl Scholarship Open for Applications08:00AM / Friday, March 08, 2024 | | NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Applications are available for the 22nd annual Daniel Pearl Berkshire Scholarship. The $2,000 award is given in memory of Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter kidnapped and killed in Pakistan early in 2002. Pearl earlier worked in the Berkshires at The North Adams Transcript and The Berkshire Eagle. While Pearl's career was in journalism, he was also a gifted musician, trained as a classical violinist. He played guitar and mandolin as well, and while living in the Berkshires he performed in a bluegrass band. The salaries budget is increasing 2.39 percent bringing it to $1,349,148, because of contractual increases and an 8 percent specialty assignment pay. The commission was re-established to negotiate a new contract with Charter Communications. The last time the town had a contract was in 1997 with Time Warner Cable, which was purchased by Spectrum in 2016. During the commission's January meeting, it voted to recommend hiring Solomon for the negotiations. Although Solomon does not usually charge less than $225 an hour he agreed to charge the town $200 an hour for his service because he enjoys the work.
