Daf Moby: A Voyage Through Melville's Talmud

PITTSFILED, Mass. — There is a Jewish tradition of studying a single page of the Talmud every day until its completion.    According to ta press release, this tradition is called Daf Yomi (Hebrew for "page of the day"). Because the Talmud is a multi-volume work of ancient law, narrative, and commentary, a full cycle of Daf Yomi takes about seven and a half years to complete. Seiji Ozawa, Longtime BSO Conductor, Dies at 88

LENOX, Mass. — Longtime Boston Symphony Orchestra conductor Seiji Ozawa died Feb. 6 in Tokyo at the age of 88.    Ozawa was the orchestra's longest serving conductor and held the title of music director for 29 years until stepping down in 2002. Seiji Ozawa Hall on the grounds of BSO's summer home Tanglewood was opened in his honor in 1994.   One of his generation's most sought-after and celebrated conductors, Ozawa was born in Shenyang, China, in 1935 and from a young age studied piano and then conducting (under Hideo Saito) in Japan.    He burst upon the musical scene in 1959, winning First Prize at the International Competition of Orchestra

Berkshire Museums New Exhibits Illuminate Text and History

PHS Students Showing Love With Art Show and Fundraiser

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield High School students are spreading the love with an art show and fundraiser before Valentine's Day.

The "For the Love of Art" exhibit will debut at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts on Friday, Feb. 2, from 5 to 7 p.m., showcasing students' midway senior portfolios, drawings and paintings, photography, and ceramic works. The show will stay up for one week.

It is the artists' way of showing their passions while helping others.
