Harrington Competes at World Championships

GLASGOW, Scotland – Pittsfield’s Kellie Harrington Thursday finished 24th in the junior cross country Olympic race at the UCI Cycling World Championships.   Harrington finished 7 minutes, 38 seconds behind the champion, Canada’s Isabella Holmgren, and in the top half of the field among 56 athletes from around the world.   Holmgren completed the race in 1:07:37, to finish 39 seconds ahead of runner-up Marin Lowe, also of Canada.   Harrington finished 21 seconds behind her Team USA teammate, Vida Lopez de San Roman in 23rd place.   The fastest American in the field was Andie Aagard, who placed eighth in 1:10:37.   Both Aagard and Lopez de San Roman

Considine Goal Lifts Maroon to Pittsfield Soccer League Title

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Chris Considine scored in the 38th minute Wednesday to give the Maroon a 1-0 win over FC Berkshire in the summer championship game of the Pittsfield Soccer League.   Considine snuck behind the defense deep on the right wing and found the back of the net to give his team the win one year after it dropped a decision on penalty kicks in the league final.   “I got a lucky break,” Considine said afterward. “They broke down once, probably, [FC Berkshire’s] defense was solid all day. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Hunter Sarkis scored 27 points and pulled down 15 rebounds Tuesday to lead Central Radio to an 80-66 win over Pizza House/Drury High School in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League B Division.   Dave Wellington scored 21 points, and Jude Collins had 17 in the win. PITTSFIELD, Mass. – FC Berkshire and Maroon Monday earned spots in the championship game of the PIttsfield Soccer League.   The two sides are the last ones standing from the dozen that began play in the league earlier this summer. SALISBURY, Md. – The Ohio Energy Alderman 16-and-under softball team Friday scored four runs in the last two innings to take a 7-3 win that eliminated the Mass Destruction from the USSSA Eastern Championship.   The Destruction came back from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to twice tie the game.   Nevaeh Lopez and Natalie Arnhold each had two hits, including a triple, for the Destruction, which collected six hits.   Amanda Pou went 5 and two-thirds innings in the circle, striking out three, walking one and not allowing an earned run.   The Destruction went 5-3-1 at the tournament.
