LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — A Good Samaritan was robbed — possibly at gunpoint — when he stopped to help what he thought were stranded motorists on Route 7 on Wednesday morning. The victim was traveling south on Route 7 at about 6 a.m. when he stopped near the New Ashford town line to check what appeared to be a disabled motor vehicle on the right shoulder of the roadway. As he approached the vehicle, the driver exited and he was approached by another man and felt what he believed to be a gun pressed against his head, according to the police report. PITTSFIELD, Mass.— The City of Pittsfield, through its Human Services Advisory Council (HSAC), is asking the public to comment on the human service needs in Pittsfield. The Human Services Advisory Council is an 11-member advisory committee that provides funding recommendations to the mayor on how the city should allocate its human services funding. One of the considerations that the council uses to make those recommendations is the input of Pittsfield residents and others. Public comments will be accepted now through Jan. 31, 2024.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Regional Planning Commission's new outdoor recreation website connects residents and visitors with the county landscape while promoting the region.
On Monday, BerkshiresOutside.org was launched with more than 550 access points to trailheads, boat launches, parks, and more. It will serve as a companion to 1Berkshire's tourism website Berkshires.org.
"I think the idea here is to try and make available information about everything that there is to do outdoors in the Berkshires," BRPC's Assistant Director Laura Brennan said. "There's a lot more than people realize."

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Local environmentalists have secured an extension of the public comment for Berkshire Gas' request for $7.6 million in energy-efficiency budget increases.
Berkshire Environmental Action Team leaders felt the outreach for a Dec. 15 hearing on the gas company's requested increases in the residential, income-eligible, and commercial industrial sectors was insufficient. BEAT requested a re-hearing and an extension of the comment deadline and the state's Department of Public Utilities has extended the deadline to submit written comments to Jan. 8, vowing additional efforts for public outreach.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Wahconah Park Restoration Committee is beginning work to reduce the project's daunting $30 million price tag. The panel recently dipped its toes into possibilities for cost savings that include different materials and reducing add-ons that are not essential.
The project designers presented a revised option that shaves off about 7,000 square feet from the 40,000 square foot design valued at $30.2 million.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Two pedestrians were seriously injured in the early hours of Monday morning after being struck by a motor vehicle. According to police, Shannon Steffey, 34, and Matthew Squires, 32, both of Pittsfield, were crossing West Housatonic Street near the 50 block when they were struck by an eastbound 2014 Toyota Corolla driven by 23-year-old Nicholas Ainsley of Pittsfield. Both Steffey and Squires were take to Berkshire Medical Center with what police described as serious injuries; Steffey was later transferred to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield in critical condition. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Affordable Housing Trust will offer its expertise for Community Preservation Act applications related to housing.
The panel agreed at its December meeting that it would make recommendations or designate CPA funds for these types of projects. For fiscal 2024, there are three community housing applications including the trust's request for $150,000.
When the AHT was created, this was thought to be one of its functions.
