PITTSFIELD, Mass. — City councilors would like to see a solution for a residential street causing grief after being narrowed. On Tuesday, the panel sent a petition from Ward 2 Councilor Charles Kronick requesting to appropriate free cash for road repairs on California Avenue to Mayor Linda Tyer. After the road was regraded and narrowed, the Department of Public Works attempted to correct drainage issues by raising the driveways by as much as two inches, Kronick said, which created a lip at the road that is a legal liability. BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced a total of more than $4.7 million in funding awards to 43 organizations for 55 projects in the Community Transit Grant Program. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Friday, Nov. 17 is the deadline for Community Preservation Act eligibility applications for historic preservation, open space and recreation, and housing projects. From that time to Dec. 4, eligibility applications will be reviewed and accepted applicants will be invited to submit a funding application due in February.  LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — First responders are concerned about a hole in the outside lane of the ring road surrounding the shuttered Berkshire Mall and have asked for a solution.
The crater near the former Best Buy has expanded to about the size of a loader's bucket and is coned off but traffic can still pass by.
"We're not only looking out for the safety of the residents but actually the mall owner from a liability standpoint," Police Chief Robert Derksen said. "We're trying to protect them as well because if there is a tragedy they're going to be liable for something like that."

DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board has set a special town meeting for Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Wahconah Regional High School to vote on adding an additional $25,000 to the police detail fund. The police detail fund is a revolving account that is currently paid up to $25,000 but is drained when a large number of details happen. It stays drained until it is replenished by payments from the private entities that hire the details. When the fund is substantially drained, the payment schedule for officers who work details is unpredictable, Police Chief Deanna Strout has said.  DALTON, Mass. — The Traffic Commission wrote a letter to the Select Board urging for a traffic study to ensure safe traffic control during elections now that the polling station is at the Senior Center. The concern was raised by Traffic Commission Chair William Drosehn during its meeting last week. Now that the decision has been made, the commission needs to weigh in and look into how to make the roads safer during elections, he said. The Select Board voted to relocate the polling station from the Community Recreation Association to the Senior Center in August, going against the ad hoc committee's suggestion.
