PITTSFIELD, Mass. — With river flooding and the presence of West Nile virus in mosquitos, the Board of Health is asking that the city resumes adulticide spraying.
Berkshire County Mosquito Control Superintendent Chris Horton feels that it is urgent to resume spraying to prevent human infection and that there was a "disconnect" between the health officials and the city.
Two years ago, the City Council voted to opt out against the BOH’s recommendation.

Xander, a Dutch shepherd, is trained in search and drug detection. DALTON, Mass. — The Police Department recently welcomed its newest addition to the force — K9 Xander. The department was awarded an $8,000 grant from the Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog to cover the cost of the dog and his training. The 20-month-old Dutch shepherd was acquire for approximately $1,000 from Shallow Creek Kennels, located in Sharpesville, Pa. Shallow Creek Kennels obtained Xander from a breeder in Budapest, Hungary. After looking at around 15 dogs, Sgt. James Duryea settled on Xander because of his nature.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Time. That is what the manager of the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter is asking for.
On Friday, the shelter's board of directors announced on social media that the facility on Crane Avenue will be closing, citing financial constraints and insufficient space.
Soon after, shelter manager Noelle Howland created a GoFundMe page that has since garnered more than $25,000 of its $30,000 goal. Her goal is to buy time and move toward securing a better building.
"Either I buy us time or, hopefully, we will get a good chunk of change and we can stay open and eventually just get out of here," she said.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A used-car dealership has been shut down because of alleged misconduct.
On Monday, the Licensing Board unanimously revoked the dealer's license for Wheels and Deals Automotive on East Street after hearing over an hour of testimony about unethical — and possibly illegal — business operations from police, the Registry of Motor Vehicles and customers.
Manager Breana ONeil attributed it to a former employee, Devon Fitts. Last year, Fitts' dealership D&K Affordable Motors surrendered its license after being accused of forgery for the second time.
