PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC) will hold an Alumni Night on Saturday, July 15 at the Pittsfield Suns game. All BCC alums receive free admission to the game, held at Wahconah Park, located at 105 Wahconah St, Pittsfield. The Suns will face the Westfield Starfires. The game kicks off at 6 pm with the National Anthem, sung by a BCC alum. There will also be a first pitch raffle. Pittsfield Parks Commission Approves Draft MOU for Springside Pump TrackBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — More than a year after the approval of a bike skills facility in Springside Park, the Parks Commission has approved a draft memorandum of understanding with its purveyors.
The New England Mountain Bike Association plans to place a bicycle skills park and pump track near the north playground of the park at no cost to the city.
Since late 2021, Parks, Open Space, and Natural Resource Program Manager James McGrath and Commissioner Anthony DeMartino have been negotiating an MOU with NEMBA. The draft will go back to the organization, which can decide whether to accept or reject the terms.

DALTON, Mass. — Robert Czerwinski has agreed to serve as the interim fire chief for Dalton. The retired Pittsfield fire chief started his first day on the job Tuesday and has agreed to serve for 90 days until the district can fill the permanent position. "He's very knowledgeable and I think he's a very good leader. I think he'll do us a really solid job doing some reorganization and keeping us moving forward," Fire District Chair JamesDriscoll said. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Voters returned both incumbents in the only two races on the town election ballot on Tuesday. Michael Murphy was elected to a second term on the Select Board with 172 votes; Barbara Davis-Hassan polled 142 votes and Deborah Maynard 131. Murphy said earlier on Tuesday that he was feeling "cautiously optimistic" about the election though there were good candidates running against him. DALTON, Mass. — A change in signage seems to have quelled neighbors' ire over errant parking and excessive noise by Zinky's Pub patrons. Since pub owner Bill Zink purchased and installed six new "no parking" signs in the adjacent residential parking lot things have improved, Deborah Merry, who filed a complaint with the town, told the Select Board last week. The board had referred the complaint to town counsel to see if there were any legal violations that need to be addressed with the pub's liquor license. Two girls teams and one boys team are advancing to the state tourney based on their performance throughout the spring: the 7th- and 8th-grade Lenox Gold girls, the 5th- and 6th-grade North Adams Breakers girls and the 5th- and 6th-grade Williamstown Vipers boys. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation will begin repair on the Holmes Road bridge starting on June 23, 2023. During this work, the Holmes Road bridge, between 650 and 677 Holmes Road, will be closed. No thru traffic will be allowed. The city recommends that drivers seek alternate routes. Traffic traveling southbound on Holmes Road will be detoured towards Pomeroy Avenue, Crofut Street and then to Route 7/20. Traffic traveling northbound should utilize Route 7/20. DALTON, Mass. — After a long search and salary revision, the town has filled the vacant town planner position. The post has been vacant since last October and town meeting voted to increase its salary by 11.26 percent to $58,335 when it failed to attract candidates. The Select Board during its meeting last week approved the appointment of the new Janko Tomasic, who is expected to start on July 10.
