Councilor Kalinowsky Joins Pittsfield Mayoral Race

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield has a fourth mayoral candidate and it's another member of the City Council.

Councilor at Large Karen Kalinowksy has taken out papers for mayor. She joins the council's current president, Peter Marchetti, former councilor John Krol, and former marketing director of Krofta Engineering Craig Gaetani in taking out nomination papers. Marchetti is the only candidate to have their signatures certified.

Kalinowksy worked with the Pittsfield Police Department for more than 30 years and was a student resource officer at Reid Middle School for 13 of them.

After retiring, she ran in Pittsfield's 2019 mayoral race but lost in the four-way preliminary

Lee Man Sentenced for Indecent Assault and Battery

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Monday, June 16, Dillon Curtin, 31 of Lee, was sentenced to two years in the House of Corrections.   Charges include Dissemination of Photograph of a Person in the Nude without Consent and two years' of probation to follow for Possession of a Firearm without a Firearms Identification Card, Improper Storage of a Firearm-10H (within a home), Possession of Class B Controlled Substance, Possession of Class C Controlled Substance, Possession of Class E Controlled Substance, and Indecent Assault and Battery.    Conditions of probation are to register with Sex Offender Registry Board; possess no weapons; have no contact and stay away from the victim;

PHS Implements Safety Measure on Finding Note

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — School officials requested extra police presence at Pittsfield High School on Wednesday and Thursday after a note was left in the building.    The high school was in a "hold in passing" for less than an hour Wednesday morning because of a note left by the apparent intruder the previous day. Pittsfield Historical Commission OKs Demos for Christian Center Expansion

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Christian Center plans to demolish two deteriorated buildings on its property to expand its footprint for increased community service.  

On Monday, the Historical Commission approved the demolition of 183-185 Robbins Ave. and 187-191 Robbins Ave., which are said to be beyond rehabilitation.

Pittsfield Council Files Age, Term Limit Petition

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council put a controversial petition to rest on Tuesday, but it may come back from the dead.

Ward 2 Councilor Charles Kronick's proposed charter modifications that impose a minimum 30-year age requirement on School Committee candidates and a one-year "cooling off" period for elected officials.

Springfield Man Arraigned in Superior Court On Drug Charges

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On June 8, Antonio Laboy, 25 of  Springfield, was arraigned in Berkshire Superior Court for possession of heroin with intent to distribute, subsequent offense and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, subsequent offense.   According to a report from the district attorney's office, Laboy was present during the execution of a search warrant on a North Adams residence that is a part of an active investigation for narcotics distribution.
