LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The Select Board has established a new committee to try to solve its public safety building needs.
The nine-member panel replaces the former Police Station Building Committee that resigned after a nearly $6 million proposal for a combined police and ambulance facility was shot down by voters at a special town meeting in March.

Wahconah Regional High School Gets a Preschool By Sabrina Damms, iBerkshires Staff

DALTON, Mass. — Wahconah Regional High School will get one of the preschool programs operated in the Central Berkshire Regional School District. Kittredge Elementary School in Hinsdale runs two classrooms and the second program is operated out of Becket Washington School. They are tuition programs. The School Committee made the decision to relocate one of the Kittredge classrooms after a lengthy discussion on Thursday. The move will address feedback that the district has received from community members regarding accessibility and will provide more internship opportunities to Wahconah students.  STOW, Mass. — State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey welcomed Brian J. Ingram as director of the Fire Safety Division of the Department of Fire Services. DALTON, Mass. — There was a "minor glitch" in the work being done on Town Hall that has since been rectified. Building Grounds Superintendent Patrick Pettit told the Select Board last week that he noticed the abatement contractor missed a 3 1/2 by 8-foot section of plaster wall in the opera house. The wall had been under plastic. After some investigation, it was determined the project supervisor at the start of the job had left for personal reasons. Landscape architect Martha Lyon speaks about the historical context of trees at Friday's Arbor Day celebration in Pittsfield. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Springside Park gained a red oak tree on Friday as the community celebrated Arbor Day. Over the next 20 years, it will absorb about 900 pounds of carbon dioxide and release upwards of 260 pounds of oxygen a year. The tree was donated by the Conway School of Landscape Design in Northampton in honor of its 50th anniversary and replaces one that fell down during a windstorm last about a year ago.
