Berkshire Planning Commission Responds to Open Meeting ComplaintBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Regional Planning Commission has received an Open Meeting Law complaint related to an April 6 meeting.
Lee resident Joshua Bloom found issues with agenda items and the Executive Committee meeting's lack of public comment.
The committee reviewed the filing on Thursday and delegated its legal counsel and Executive Director Thomas Matuszko as respondents.
"The complaint alleges that the committee violated the Open Meeting Law for a few reasons," Matuszko explained.
"First, the committee's meeting notice did not include topics concerning financial expenditures of the Housatonic Rest of River municipal committee.

First-quarter corporate earnings are pouring in, and the results have been mixed. So far, the numbers have been good enough to keep the market from falling significantly, but not good enough to warrant further gains. It is still early days, with only 15 percent of companies reported, but so far, the best I can say is mixed. The multicenter banks continued to surprise to the upside this week, while the regionals have been so-so but not as bad as some expected. Of course, the Silicon Valley Bank debacle did not occur until toward the end of the quarter, so much of the impact won't be known until the second quarter results are announced.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Housing affordability goes beyond the direct costs of a mortgage or rent. On Wednesday, the Affordable Housing Trust looked into energy costs as a challenge of affordable housing with presentations from the Berkshire Community Action Council and the Berkshire Environmental Action Team.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city of Pittsfield's Department of Public Utilities' annual flushing of the city water system will begin Monday, April 24. Water mains throughout the city will be flushed through hydrants over the course of four weeks to remove accumulations of pipeline corrosion products. BOSTON — Eversource natural gas customers can expect lower costs for the upcoming off-peak season beginning May 1 due to a significant drop in global market prices and reduced individual use during the summer months. The energy company has filed decreased gas supply rates with the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) and if approved, an average residential customer would see an approximately 15-20 percent savings per month compared to last summer. DALTON, Mass. — Wahconah Regional High School is now offering a dual enrollment course in early childhood. The district has had an ongoing relationship with Berkshire Community College to offer dual enrollment so students can earn college credit. Students receive both high school and college credit. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Voters will not be able to cast ballots early by mail but can they can still request an absentee ballot for the town election.
Last week, Clerk Ruth Knysh asked the Select Board to opt out of early voting by mail for municipal elections. Her request came after the state expanded access last year.
"An act passed to allow early voting by mail for local elections. It used to be just state and federal," she said. "So my thought on that is it's not in my budget, it's a lot of extra work added on me. I'm only one person in there."
Knysh explained that all of the mail-in ballots would have to be opened and processed by herself
