GREENFIELD, Mass. -- Jason Codey struck out 10 Tuesday to lead Pittsfield Post 68 Juniors to a 5-0 win in a double-header split against Greenfield Post 81 in American Legion Baseball action. Codey scattered three hits and walked one in the complete-game, five-inning win. Devin Reynolds and Gavin O'Donnell each doubled, and Simon Mele drove in a pair of runs in the win. Post 81 came back to earn a 3-2 win in the nightcap. Greenfield scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. DALTON, Mass. — In August, like hundreds of thousands of recent high school graduates, Payton Shippee will leave his family and head to college. For him, unlike many, he should feel right at home.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Pittsfield Girls Softball will host the New England Babe Ruth Regional Tournament at the Doyle Softball Complex from June 28 to June 30. The tournament will feature 15 teams, including the Berkshire Force 12-and-under and 14-and-under travel squads. The event will get under way at 8 a.m. on Friday and run through about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. On Monday, June 17, Tyler Sumner was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for one count of murder in the first degree.
For one count of possession of ammunition without FID card, the defendant was sentenced to two years in the House of Corrections to be served concurrent with the one count of murder in the first degree.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) federal funding program is bringing resources to Berkshire County to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on our roads, with the goal of reaching zero. Berkshire Regional Planning Commission (BRPC) is kicking off this effort under the banner of their STEPS Initiative: the Safe Travel and Equity Plan for our Streets, and will soon begin the data gathering process. To help answer the question of how we prevent more people from experiencing traffic crashes in the future, BRPC is inviting residents of Berkshire County to share their experiences that might not be found in a statewide database. DALTON, Mass. — The Traffic Commission will be sending the Select Board a letter with recommendations on ways to improve voting at the Senior Center. During its meeting on Wednesday, Traffic Commission Chair William Drosehn informed everyone that the Select Board has requested they draft a letter about how voting at the Senior Center has been going thus far. Last August, the Select Board voted to relocate the town's polling station to the Senior Center to improve accessibility for voters with mobility impairments. Temperatures are expected in the low 90s but the high humidity could spike the heat index to 105 degrees. LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Voters will choose a new Select Board member through a contested race in Tuesday's town election. Polls open at noon in the Town Hall community room and will close at 8 p.m. Longtime Planning Board member Joseph Trybus and Deborah Maynard, also on the board, are running for the three-year term. John Goerlach declined to run again after serving Lanesborough for 18 years, being first elected in 2006. When prompted for closing words at the last meeting, Goerlach thanked the townspeople for their support and said it has been a pleasure to serve them. PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Gavin O'Donnell went 2-for-3 at the plate and threw two innings of relief on Sunday to help the Pittsfield Post 68 Juniors an 11-0 win over North Adams Post 128 in Americna Legion Baseball action. Matt Egan threw four innings to earn the win on the mound. Egan struck out four, walked three and scattered three hits. Devin Reynolds went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs, and Simon Mele doubled in a seven-hit attack for Pittsfield. Mason Canata, J.J. Jacob Galliher at the opening of Jake's Java coffee shop. The coffee shop, located at 20 Williamstown Road, was opened in honor of Galliher and will stand as a monument to him and his memory.
