Pittsfield Sues PathogenX for Repayment of GE Funds

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city is suing a medical waste company for repayment of GE Economic Development funds. 

A lawsuit filed on June 13 says PathogenX "failed to establish actual and ongoing operations in the City of Pittsfield and furthermore failed to register with the Secretary of the Commonwealth to conduct business in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts." 

In April, the city ordered the company to repay $70,000 that has been disbursed under the $150,000 agreement. As of mid-June, repayments hadn't been made, and Pittsfield officials allege that they were lied to about PathogenX's legitimacy and ability to bring operations to the

Adams-Cheshire, Dalton-Hinsdale Square Off in Jimmy Fund Final

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Adams-Cheshire 10-year-old All-Stars were the big winners on the diamond in Thursday’s finale of the John Codey Jimmy Fund Classic at Belanger Field.   But while the victors pounded out 13 hits in a 19-3 win over Dalton-Hinsdale, the biggest blows of the week were struck against cancer.   For 35 years, Berkshire County youngsters have been raising money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and enjoying America’s pastime.   To date, the local event has raised more than $650,000 for the cause, including close to $15,000 from the four teams who participated at this month’s tournament, according to co-director Gildo

Holden Ends Pittsfield Little League's Post-Season Run

Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Training for Public Safety Officials

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Fire, police, and emergency medical professionals in Berkshire County are invited to a hands-on training on lithium-ion battery fire response hosted by the Berkshire Regional Transit Authority.    The workshop, led by a lithium-ion battery expert with International BAE Systems, covers how to recognize battery failures, prevent thermal runaway, and protect crews from toxic gas exposure and reignition hazards. Berkshire Habitat ReStore Closing Its Doors

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity announced last week that it will closing the ReStore on Hubbard Avenue at the end of August because it is no longer profitable.

The store took in donated building materials, furniture and lighting and resold them to raise funds for Habitat projects. 

"ReStores across the country are seeing a decline in sales and profitability and for our ReStore, when we opened it 15 years ago, it was to be able to help build homes. So it's been having dwindling returns for a while," said Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity CEO Carolyn Valli.

Springfield Diocese Names New Assistant Director of Development

Dalton Board Sets Salary Range for Town Manager Position

DALTON, Mass. — As the town moves forward in its search for a new town manager, the Select Board voted to increase its salary range for the position.    The Select Board approved a salary range of $135,000 to $155,000 to attract more applicants in a competitive market for town managers in Western Massachusetts.   Municipal Resources Inc. consultants Reginald "Buzz" Stapczynski and Robert Mercier previously warned the board of the need for a conversation on salaries.    During the search for an interim town manager, the town posted an annual salary range of $120,000 to $135,000.    "Our recommendation in your case is to look at a salary

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Gavin O’Donnell went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI Wednesday to lead the Pittsfield Post 68-1 Seniors to an American Legion Baseball win over Monson Post 241 at Clapp Park.   Jason Codey tripled in a five-hit attack for Pittsfield, which worked nine walks in the win.   Cam Harrington and Jack Abel combined for the win on the mound.   Harrington struck out seven and allowed two runs in five innings of work to earn the win.   Abel closed the game with two innings of one-run ball.   Post 68-1 (11-1) finishes the regular season on Thursday at East Springfield Post 420.

Pittsfield Little Leaguers Stay Alive in Sectional
