 The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department says many people are having problems with bears looking for food near their homes, and with the food scrap ban in effect the department is providing tips for people who are composting at home so they can avoid attracting hungry bears. "We have been receiving lots of reports of bears on decks, tearing down bird feeders, wrecking beehives, killing chickens, and getting into trash, compost and garbage containers," said bear biologist Jaclyn Comeau. During Berkshire Community College's 64th commencement, 189 students graduated under sunny skies at Tanglewood. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A 62-year-old New York State man was arraigned Friday for enticement of a child. David Stypa was arrested on Thursday and charged with enticement of a child younger than 16; two counts of disseminating obscene matter to a minor; and attempt to commit a crime. Stypa was arraigned in Central Berkshire District Court in front of Judge Jennifer Tyne, who ordered he be held on $100,000 cash bail. The defendent was arrested following an investigation into his online communications with a minor and is alleged to have been in communication with the child over online platforms. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College held its 64th commencement ceremony on Friday, May 31, at Tanglewood. The college awarded 152 associate degrees (including 105 associate in science degrees and 47 associate in arts degrees) and 39 certificates. A total of 191 awards were conferred to 189 students in 36 programs of study.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council preliminarily approved a $216 million budget for fiscal year 2025 with a last-minute reduction to the schools.
The meeting took an unexpected twist when displeasure with comments made during a School Committee meeting last week was brought forward and councilors voted to reduce the district's $82 million budget by $200,000, dropping the proposed city budget to $215,955,210.
Councilor at Large Earl Persip III motioned for the reduction, clarifying that it was not a retaliation. Two days before the School Committee meeting on May 22, there were unsuccessful motions to reduce the district budget by $730,000 and $250,000 during Committee of

The mural is a collaboration between Morningside School and local artists Huck Elling and Marina Dominguez and funded through the Mill Town Foundation and MassDevelopment. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Morningside Community School students smiled and pointed as they saw their own faces in the new mural on the YMCA.
Last Friday, the multi-panel artwork was unveiled on North Street amidst a sea of bubbles and children's laughter. The project is a collaboration between local artists Huck Elling and Marina Dominguez, Morningside, Mill Town Foundation, and MassDevelopment's Transformative Development Initiative.
