Becket Athenaeum, Berkshire Pride Gets Mass Humanities Recovery Grant

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mass Humanities, the Commonwealth's leading funder of humanities programs, announced that 35 organizations from Cape Cod to the Berkshires will receive grants totaling over $1.2 million, marking the largest single grant line in the history of the organization.   In the Berkshires, Becket Athenaeum and Berkshire Pride received grants.    The 2023 Staffing Recovery Grants deliver funding to non-profit organizations to sustain and expand the hours of current staff or to hire new staff in order to create, restore and grow humanities programs across the state. Awards ranged between $16,000 and $40,000 and benefit organizations with budgets of $500,000

Pittsfield Council Tackles Appointments, Financials, and Eversource Request

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council went through thirteen agenda items in just under two hours on Tuesday.  These included appointments, financial items, and the installation of electric infrastructure.   Ward 2 Councilor Charles Kronick raised several concerns with appointments to the Charter Review Committee appointments, inciting a larger conversation.     Yamila Badui, Michael McCarthy, Leah Reed, Brendan Sheran, William Travis, Catherine VanBramer, and Ward 6 Councilor Dina Lampiasi were voted into the committee.   Kronick asked that each appointment be taken separately, claiming that there are conflicts of interest with others.  He voted

Pittsfield Sees Another Certified Mayoral Candidate, Ward and School Committee Interest

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city has another certified mayoral candidate and new interest in the wards and School Committee.

Councilor At Large Karen Kalinowsky has had her signatures certified after taking out papers last month.  She had originally taken interest in returning to her seat at large but has dropped from that race to try for the city"s lead position.

So far, she and City Council President Peter Marchetti are the only certified mayoral candidates.  John Krol, Craig Gaetani, and David Webber have also taken out papers.

Resident Daniel Miraglia has taken out papers for Ward 3 to run against Bill Tyer and Matthew Wrinn, who have both been certified.

Pittsfield Main Pleads Guilty to Assault and Battery

'Choose Your Subaru' Raffle Benefiting Homeless Animals

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Humane Society and Haddad Subaru have launched their 11th annual "Choose Your Subaru" car raffle.    "We're grateful to have had a partner like Haddad Subaru," said John Perreault, Executive Director of Berkshire Humane Society. "Not only do they help us raise tens of thousands of dollars each year for the car raffle, they underwrite an animal adoption each week for up to $2,600 annually and often choose us as one of their hometown charities in the Subaru Share the Love event. Saint Joseph Polish Picnic Returns this Sunday

PITTSFIELD, Mass.— After a three-year hiatus from in-person celebrations, the Saint Joseph Polish Picnic is back this Sunday.    From noon until 5 p.m. the lawn of the parish will once again be filled with music, dance, food, and children's festivities.    All funds raised support the parish.    The event has been going on for generations originating as a family community picnic at Holy Family Parish.    When Holy Family closed St. Joseph took it over. Pittsfield May Query Voters on Police Chief Residency Requirement

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council is considering asking voters, "Should public safety leaders be required to reside in Pittsfield?"

On Tuesday, councilors unanimously referred Ward 1 Councilor Kenneth Warren's request for a ballot question asking if the restriction that requires such management positions to live in the city should be eliminated to City Solicitor Stephen Pagnotta.

Pagnotta is expected to draft a question with clarifying language and return it to the body in August.  He will also identify what a "yes" and "no" vote would entail.

The original motion was to approve Warren's petition but the panel amended it to be a referral
