BCC to Reopen Paterson Field House

PITTSFIELD, Mass. —?Berkshire Community College (BCC) will reopen Paterson Field House on Monday, April 24 after completing substantial renovations to its heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and refinishing floors.    While renovations were delayed during the pandemic, Paterson served about 33,000 people receiving COVID-19 vaccines.    The Paterson Field House is a part of the Paterson Recreation Complex, which serves students, faculty, staff and the greater Berkshire community. Pittsfield Concom Approves Car Wash Improvements, Relocated Cell Antenna

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Patriot Car Wash is planning various improvements to its facility on Elm Street.

On Thursday, the Conservation Commission approved two 600-square-foot additions, a roof canopy to the existing laundromat building, the relocation of 11 vacuums, two planting areas, and the milling and repaving of the existing bituminous parking/access drive.

The work is proposed within the riverfront area and bordering land subject to flooding due to its proximity to the east branch of the Housatonic River.

Governor Announces Final Allocation of Volkswagen Settlement Funds

BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced that it will allocate the final $34.3 million of Massachusetts' Volkswagen Settlement funds to support the transition to electric vehicles.    A final amendment to the state's VW Settlement Beneficiary Mitigation Plan (BMP) will allocate the funds in three categories: $26.8 million for Regional Transit Authority electric transit buses and chargers, $7.5 million for an electrification-only Volkswagen Solicitation, and $50,000 for administrative costs. Pittsfield Parks Commission OKs Returning Cultural Events

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Long beloved cultural events are returning this year.

The Parks Commission has approved park event requests for Third Thursday, Shakespeare in the Park, and Tanglewood in the City.

For more than 15 years, vendors, performances and activities have popped up downtown on the third Thursday of warmer months. This year, the events will happen on May 18, June 15, July 20, and August 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. again at the Common.

Third Thursday returned last year after a two-year hiatus because of the pandemic but was moved to the Common from North Street as a smaller event.

Berkshire Planning Commission Responds to Open Meeting Complaint

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Regional Planning Commission has received an Open Meeting Law complaint related to an April 6 meeting.  

Lee resident Joshua Bloom found issues with agenda items and the Executive Committee meeting's lack of public comment.

The committee reviewed the filing on Thursday and delegated its legal counsel and Executive Director Thomas Matuszko as respondents.

"The complaint alleges that the committee violated the Open Meeting Law for a few reasons," Matuszko  explained.

"First, the committee's meeting notice did not include topics concerning financial expenditures of the Housatonic Rest of River municipal committee.

First-quarter corporate earnings are pouring in, and the results have been mixed. So far, the numbers have been good enough to keep the market from falling significantly, but not good enough to warrant further gains.   It is still early days, with only 15 percent of companies reported, but so far, the best I can say is mixed. The multicenter banks continued to surprise to the upside this week, while the regionals have been so-so but not as bad as some expected.
